Mustangs roll into Final Four

AUBURN - Freshman Jamie Henderson was six-for-seven from the field, including four 3-pointers as Central Maine ran away with a 93-60 win over Hampshire College Sunday in the Mustangs final regular season game.

The Mustangs (18-5) limited the Black sheep to 29 percent shooting and added to a 10-point halftime lead with a 53-30 scoring advantage in the second half.

Tyler Smithgall canned 14 points with eight boards and four steals. Brennen Morton hit four treys for 12 points while Bronson Drewry scored nine and Nate Damm added eight. Josh Martin dished out a team-high five assists and Kyle Goncalves pulled down six rebounds.

Sayer Wickman paced the Black Sheep (7-9) with 20 points and Cody Tannen-Barrup added 15.

The Mustangs, ranked second in the Yankee Conference behind Vermont Tech, will face the winner of the Southern Maine CC- UMaine-Augusta preliminary at the Yankee Final Four in Concord, NH on Saturday, Feb. 21.


Mustangs hit century mark against Knights

AUBURN - It was raining threes at Kirk Hall Gymnasium on Saturday as Central Maine Community College hit the century mark for the first time this season with a 103-95 victory over North Essex Community College of Haverhill, Mass.

The teams hit a combined 26 shots from behind the arc with Nate Damm leading the way for the Mustangs with six 3-pointers and 26 points.

Matt Sceviour turned in a double-double with 18 points and 10 assists while Cam Angell hit for 20 points and Tyler Smithgall finished with 15 points, seven boards and six assists.

The Mustangs shot 62 percent from the floor, out-rebounded the Knights 46-36 and led by nine at the break. Bronson Drewry was 3-for-3 from downtown to lead the Mustang bench with nine points while Brennen Morton hit a pair for six points.

Ismael Rios caught fire for the Knights (12-9) hitting nine of 16 from 3-point range en route to a game-high 38 points. Timothy Bent poured in 21 and Anthony Siri added 14.

The win snaps a two-game losing streak and moves the Mustangs to 17-5 on the season with one regular season game remaining when CM plays host to Hampshire College on Sunday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m. Six days later, the Yankee Small College Conference Final Four begins in Concord, NH.


Mustangs drop second straight

MANCHESTER, NH - The Blue Devils of Hesser College exacted revenge on an early season loss with a 70-54 victory over Central Maine on Thursday.

Tyler Smithgall's double-double led the Mustang attack with 21 points and 15 rebounds and

The Blue Devils controlled the tempo of the game from the start, led by three at the break and pulled away at the end.

The Mustangs fall to 16-5 on the season and 11-3 in the Yankee Conference. They'll host Northern Essex Community College this Saturday (Feb. 7) at 2 p.m. and close out the regular season at Kirk Hall Gymnasium with a game against Hampshire College Sunday, Feb. 15 at 2 p.m.


Mustang men fall to Green Knights

RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. - Marcus King drained a game-high 27 points to lead Ve rmont Tech in a 78-61 win over Central Maine in a Sunday Yankee Conference tilt.

Tyler Smithgall led the Mustangs with 17 points and Matt Sceviour registered 13.

The Green Knights shot 60 percent from the floor to the Mustangs' 33 percent.

The Mustangs won the first game, 80-68, but, in coach Gonyea's words, the Mustangs were outplayed and outworked by a much improved team. The Mustangs' six game win streak is snapped as the team falls to 16-4 overall and 11-2 in the conference play.

The battle for Yankee Conference supremacy continues this week as the Mustangs travel to the Granite State to take on the Hesser College Blue Devils, Thursay, Feb. 5 at 6 p.m.


Mustangs take down Warriors

BROCKTON, Mass. - Cam Angell spent the afternoon hitting from behind the arc and Brennen Morton picked up where he left off against EMCC as Central Maine dealt the Mass asoit Community College Warriors a 76-62 defeat on Saturday.

Angell hit eight treys and finished with a game-high 28 points to complement his five assists. Tyler Smithgall poured in 12 and Morton hit for 11, giving him 19 points in the past two games.

The Mustangs enjoyed a 20-point lead for most of the second half en route to the sixth

Matt Sceviour scored nine points, Matt "Cheeks" Lyons added eight points and pulled down eight boards and Farrell Jean-Gilles added six points.

Lewis Ayrno paced the Warriors, who fell to 15-5, with 23 points.

The Mustangs invade Vermont Tech on Sunday afternoon for a triple-bill of Yankee Conference action. The JV Mustangs take on the Green Knights at 10 a.m., followed by the Lady Mustangs at 12 p.m. and the men at 2 p.m.


Mustangs win fifth straight, 89-72 over EMCC

AUBURN - Tyler Smithgall led all players with 19 points, 14 rebounds and seven steals as Central Maine upended Eastern Maine Community College 89-72 in a Yankee Conference tilt at Kirk Hall Gymnasium on Tuesday.

The Mustangs (15-3) out hustled the Golden Eagles (2-11) from the opening tip , forced 22 turnovers and built a 49-36 advantage at the break.

The Mustangs opened the game with a 'new look' starting five consisting of Chadd Wilner, Brennen Morton, Josh Martin, Josh Levasseur and Arsenio Santamaria. Aggressive defensive

The starting five yielded just a two-point advantage to the Golden Eagles before taking a well deserved breather with the score 19-17. Morton finished with eight points while Wilner and Josh Levasseur tallied five apiece.

It didn't take long for the second unit to find their shooting touch. Cam Angell hit four treys for 12 points while Matt Sceviour, Farrell Jean-Gilles and Nate Damm each scored nine. Matt Lyons grabbed 10 rebounds and Sceviour registered five assists.

Brandon Tomah led the Golden Eagles with 15 points and nine rebounds while Adam Knowles and Ben Maloney drained 14 points each.

It was the Mustangs' fifth straight win as they improve to 15-3 on the season and 11-1 in conference play. They'll hit the road for three straight games starting with a visit to Brockton, Mass. to take on the Warriors of Massasoit Community College on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 3 p.m.; then it's on to Vermont Tech to face the Green Knights on Sunday, Feb. 1 at 3 p.m. The final road contest of the regular season brings CM to New Hampshire on Thursday, Feb. 5 to face the Blue Devils of Hesser College at 6 p.m.


Mustangs cage Lynx

CONCORD — Cam Angell led four players in double figures with a game-high 21 points to lead Central Maine in a 73-68 win over New Hampshire Technical Institute in a Yankee Conference tilt on Friday. The victory secures a regular season sweep over the Lynx.

The Mustangs (14-3) built a double digit advantage and kept the Lynx off balance with a

Tyler Smithgall tallied 17 points, Matt Sceviour added 12 points and five assists and Farrell Jean-Gilles registered 10 points. Smithgall and Matt Lyons were a force under the hoop, pulling down seven rebounds each.

The Mustangs sustained a late rally by the Lynx and spent the closing minutes sinking foul shots to seal the win.

Jacob Lewis-Hamel paced the Lynx (10-7) with 19 points.

It was the Mustangs' tenth win in their last 11 games and they improve to 10-1 in Yankee competition. Next up is a showdown with the Golden Eagles of Eastern Maine Community College Tuesday, Jan. 27 at Kirk Hall Gymnasium. The Ladies tip off at 6 p.m. followed by the men at 8 p.m.


Mustangs dismantle Seawolves

AUBURN - Tyler Smithgall hit everything but the lottery and the structural integrity of Kirk Hall Gymnasium was put to the test Wednesday night as a boisterous standing-room-only crowd saw their Mustangs wear down Southern Maine Community College 87-66 in a m atchup of two teams tied for the runner-up spot in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association poll.

The Mustangs barely resembled the team that dropped a 92-77 decision to its intrastate foe in South Portland over a month ago. Of course, that was last year; ancient history.

Smithgall played like each basket negated a homework assignment, scorching the nets for 31 points to compliment his nine boards and three steals. Cam Angell, who struggled to find his shooting touch in the first meeting, hit for 13, including a pair of dunks that rocked cozy Kirk Hall to its foundation. The Leavitt grad also dished out a team-high seven assists.

Floor general Matt Sceviour tallied 12 points and five assists while sixth-man Farrell Jean-Gilles registered a double-double with 11 points, including three treys, and 12 rebounds. Matt Lyons scored eight points with 12 rebounds and Nate Damm hit for nine and four assists.

Coleman Findlay led the Seawolves with 16 points and 12 rebounds.


Mustangs Outrun, Outgun UMA

AUBURN - Cam Angell led five Mustangs in double figures with a team high 23 points and Tyler Smithgall and Matt Sceviour each registered a double-double as Central Maine Community College opened the second half of their season with a 96-74 Yankee Conference win over the University of Maine Augusta on Monday.

Trailing throughout the first half, the Mustangs (11-3) took the lead just before the break and never looked back, outscoring the Moose 62-42 in the second half.

Smithgall canned 18 points and hauled down 10 boards while Sceviour poured in 14 points to

Nate Damm hit for 14 points and Farrell Jean-Gilles came off the bench for 18. The Mustangs improve to 8-1 in conference play.

Lawrence Williams paced the Moose( 3-12) with a game-high 25 points while Moses Brathwaite added 20.


Mustangs fall to Seawolves

SOUTH PORTLAND - Despite Matt Lyons' double-double and Matt Sceviour's team-high 25 points, the Mustangs fell to the Southern Maine Community College Seawolves, 92-77 on Thursday night in front of a packed house at the HUB Athletic Center.

It was a slugfest from the opening tip with lead changes throughout the first half, but the Mustangs couldn't find an answer for the Seawolves' Coleman Findlay, who led all players

The Seawolves (12-2) led by six at the break and shot 57 percent from the field in the second half.

Lyons, who took the brunt of the load in the paint when Tyler Smithgall (8 points) picked up his fifth foul midway through the second half, finished with 14 points, 15 boards, four steals and was perfect from the line in six tries.

Sceviour was outstanding on both ends of the court, especially in the second half where he scored 18 of his 25 points and tallied four steals.

Nate Damm sparked the Mustangs in the first half hitting three treys and finished with 17 points while Cam Angell hit for nine. Josh Levasseur contributed four points and hauled down seven rebounds.

The Mustangs fall to 10-3 on the season and 6-1 in the Yankee Conference heading into the break. The second half of the season commences on Saturday, Jan. 10 when the Mustangs head to Brockton, Mass. to take on the Warriors of Massasoit Community College.


Mustangs ground Golden Eagles

BANGOR - Cam Angell poured in a game-high 19 points as the Mustangs earned their sixth consecutive victory with an 88-61 win over the Eastern Maine Community College G olden Eagles on Wednesday.

The Mustangs opened a 47-26 lead at the half on the strength of outstanding play by the "Bomb Squad" (Nate Damm, Chadd Wilner, Shane Hurdle, Josh Martin and Eric Morang).

Angell was among four Mustangs to hit for double figures; Tyler Smithgall scored 15 points,

Matt "Cheeks" Lyons continued his dominance under the glass, hauling down 12 rebounds.

Adam Knowles scored 15 points and Ben Maloney had 14 to lead the Golden Eagles.

The Mustangs improve to 10-2 on the season and 6-0 in Yankee Conference play. The win was #299 for coach Gonyea, who will look for the milestone victory next Thursday night when the Mustangs travel to Southern Maine; both teams are ranked in the top-five in the country.


Mustangs dispatch Green Knights, 80-68

AUBURN - Matt Sceviour drained a team-high 17 points, hauled down eight reboun ds and collected three steals to lead Central Maine Community College in a 80-68 Yankee Conference victory over Vermont Tech on Sunday.

Tyler Smithgall hit for 16 points to compliment his nine boards and Nate Damm was 4-for-4

Matt Lyons scored eight and registered a game-high 13 rebounds while Cam Angell and Rod Tirell each hit for nine points.

The Mustangs (9-2) held the Green Knights to 35 percent shooting and outscored their bench 30-6.

Marquise King scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Green Knights while Trent Roleau and Sean Smith combined for 27.
