MUSTANGS SWEEP NHTI

When the CM Mustangs woke and made their way to Kirk Hall for an early morning shoot around on Thursday, they knew their day was going to be a good one. Not only was it Veterans Day, but the first game of the year in the storied CM-NHTI basketball rivalry. This was also the night to debut Northeast DJ’s laser light pre-game show which compares to the show before each Celtics home game. Former Mustang standout Danny DeBruin and his company did not disappoint, turning Kirk Hall into the TD Bank Garden for warm-ups and player introductions.

A good day turned great when a mere 12 hours later, at approximately 10:08pm, the final buzzer rang, and the Mustangs completed a 3 game sweep of NHTI in convincing fashion.

Mark Truss led CM Men with 21 points, including 12-of-15 from the line, and a game-high nine rebounds as the Mustangs ran away with a 93-81 win in a rematch of last year's Yankee Small College Conference title game.

As the CAN-AM ends... The regular season begins!

The 2010 CAN-AM tournament is now history, but if we can tell anything from the atmosphere and play from this past weekend, the 2010-11 season will be one to remember. 8 teams battled over 2 days in the largest CAN-AM tournament to date. Both the CM women and men had successful showings, and displayed a lot of promise for the upcoming year. On day one, both Mustang teams defeated Nova Scotia. The women won 87-62, and the men 86-51. The Lady Mustangs were led by Karlee Biskup with 24 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds. She was followed by a very balanced scoring attack from Alex Donald, Danielle McCusker, and Pernille Pedersen. In the Mens game, Jason Dennison led the Mustangs with 23 points, followed by Curtis Miller with 15, Wes Sexton with 10, and Patrick Lorfils with 10. Nick Hinkley led the Mustangs with 7 assists.

Sunday was a bit rougher on the teams, dropping two closely fought games to a very good St. Thomas program. The Lady Mustangs were led in scoring by Pernille Pedersen with 16 points and Teira Durgin with 14. The Men were led by Curtis Miller with 23, Jason Dennison with 15, and Patrick Lorfils with 10. Both teams travel to MMA this weekend for a contest against the Mariners. The Men are back home next Tuesday night against Ranor, and then both teams will be taking the floor against rival NHTI on Thursday night.

MIDNIGHT MADNESS IS A GREAT SUCCESS!

Kirk Hall was packed with students and team members on Sunday night as the 2010-11 basketball season officially got underway. Teams have been practicing all weekend and were given the “main stage” on Sunday. The fun evening showcased both the Men’s and Women’s programs and was complemented by student contests. Between the team games there was a dunk contest, tug of war, hula hooping, name that tune, and half court shots. Sounds of the evening were brought by DJ Danny DeBruin. Both programs show great potential for the upcoming season. The Men’s and Women’s teams both have their first home games against the CM alumni on October 23rd.
