Mustangs exceed expectations

CMCC had an impressive 2008 soccer season. The Mustang’s finished the regular season with a winning record of 4-3-1. The team also qualified for the Conference playoffs for the first time under second year head coach Bryan Wallace.

In midsummer the team came together for the first time. A practice was designed to introduce the new players to coach’s, returning players and CMCC.

Late August saw a very successful preseason. After dropping the first game of the season to New Hampshire Technical Institute the Mustang’s regrouped and went on a three game winning streak beating conference opponents Unity College, Northern Maine Community College and Eastern Maine Community College.

The last game of the regular season turned out to be the high point of the season for CMCC. A play-in game was needed to break a tie with rivals Southern Maine Community College with the winner advancing to the
Yankee Conference playoffs. An exciting and well-played game eventually led to a CMCC win 1-0 in the second overtime.

The 2008 Central Maine soccer team exceeded all expectations this fall. Goals for next year will be higher with a majority of the team returning.

Congratulations to Mahad Osman and Shane Hurdle. These players were named to the 2008 YSCC All-Conference Team.

According to Coach Wallace, “This season was remarkable. We had a talented group of players that were fun to coach. As a team we played a lot of exciting soccer which was great to watch. I am committed to coaching next year and I have begun recruiting for next fall. I look forward to the return of many players from this season and I wish all the best for my players graduating in May of 2009.”
