Lady Mustangs sheer Black Sheep

AUBURN - Britney Salley drained a game-high 14 points leading 12 players in the scoring column as Central Maine Community College steamrolled Hampshire College 81-16 in the ladies' regular season finale at Kirk Hall Gymnasium on Sunday.

The Mustangs (17-5) jumped out to a 42-7 halftime lead and rode a 52-34 rebounding advantage and 58 percent shooting to their fifth consecutive victory.

Teira Durgin drained three treys and finished with 13 points and four rebounds in just over 10 minutes of playing time. Kayla Ellis led a tenacious defense with 11 points and four steals while Michelle Holmquist and Katie Martin hauled down six rebounds apiece. Sara Martin added seven points and Ashley Quimby registered six.

Sam Marlow led the Black Sheep (12-11) with seven points.

The Mustangs head into the Yankee Conference Final Four ranked second to Southern Maine Community College. They will face the winner of a New Hampshire Technical Institute-Vermont Tech preliminary on Feb. 21 in Concord, NH.


Four in a row for Lady Mustangs

AUBURN - Michelle Holmquist's double-double (17 points, 13 assists) led three Mustangs in double figures as Central Maine Community College ran away from Northern Essex Community College of Haverhill, Mass. 80-54 on Saturday.

Carrie Jamison was five of six from the field and added a pair of free throws for 12 points to complement her four rebounds and Britney Salley tallied 11 points, six boards and three assists.

The Mustangs led 37-26 at the half and went on a 10-0 run in the second half to put the game away. Ashley Quimby hit three treys to nine points while Christie McAuliffe and Kayla Ellis scored eight apiece. McAuliffe and Teira Durgin each dished out five assists.

Sarah Dubois registered 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Knights (8-6) while Mary Sicard added 15 points.

The Mustangs win their fourth consecutive game, improve to 16-5 on the season and have clinched the second seed in the Yankee Conference with the Final Four scheduled for Feb. 20-21. Their final regular season game of the season takes place this Sunday, Feb. 15 at 12 p.m. against Hampshire College.


12 score as Lady Mustangs tame Blue Devils

MANCHESTER, NH — Michelle Holmquist registered a double-double with 19 points and 15 rebounds, leading 12 players to score at least three points, as Central Maine rolled over Hesser 92-64 in a Yankee Conference battle on Thursday.

The Mustangs enjoyed a 28 point lead at the break along with a 16 point, six rebound performance from freshman forward Christy McAuliffe.

Britney Salley also hit double figures for the Mustangs with 10 points while Sara Martin and Kerri Harris each hit for eight.

Katie Edwards led the Blue Devils (7-14) with a game-high 30 points and Meghan O'Regan poured in 28.

The Ladies improve to 15-5 on the season and 11-3 in the Yankee Conference. They host Northern Essex Community College this Saturday (Feb. 7) at noon.


Lady Mustangs disarm Green Knights

RANDOLPH CENTER, Vt. - Michelle Holmquist tallied a team high 11 points and eight rebounds as the Lady Mustangs took down Vermont Tech 67-46 in Yankee Conference action on Sunday, sweeping the regular season series with the Green Knights.

Looking for their second straight win since dropping back-to-back games to Southern Maine and NHTI, the Mustangs led by 13 at the break and outscored the Green Knights 29-21 in the second half.

Freshman guards Danielle Hebert and Teira Durgin each scored nine points, Tiffany Seams poured in eight, Kayla Ellis registered seven points and six boards while Christy McAuliffe, Ashley Quimby and Kerri Harris added six points each.

Seams and Quimby each hit a pair of treys for the Mustangs and McAuliffe turned in a team-high four steals and three assists.

Stacey Waite and Jody Martin led the Green Knights with 14 and 10 points, respectively.

The Ladies improve to 14-5 on the season and 10-3 in conference play. The road trip continues Thursday, Feb. 5 against the Hesser College Blue Devils, a team the Mustangs defeated 70-50 in their first meeting on Dec. 2, then it's back to cozy Kirk Hall Gymnasium to take on Northern Essex Community College on Saturday, Feb. 7 at noon.


Lady Mustangs back on winning track

AUBURN - Teira Durgin's 13 points led five players to hit double figures as Central Maine rolled over Eastern Maine Community College 81-54 in a Yankee Conference matchup on Tuesday.

The big win came at a perfect time for the Ladies, who were coming off back-to-back losses for the first time this season.

The Mustangs received scoring contributions from 11 players, including 45 points off the bench.

Leading by 12 at the half, the Mustangs (13-5) opened the final frame with a 9-2 run to put the game out of reach. They forced 21 turnovers, allowed 31 percent shooting from the floor and kept the Golden Eagles (2-8) guessing with a variety of pressure defenses led by Durgin and Kayla Ellis.

Michelle Holmquist and Sara Martin each registered 12 points, Danielle Hebert scored 11 and Britney Salley turned in her best performance since returning from a back injury with 10 points and six rebounds. Carrie Jamison earned significant playing time with six points and three boards while Katie Martin pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Nikki Kaulback led the Golden Eagles with 17 points while Jessica Brown added 14.

The win moves the Mustangs to 13-5 on the season and 9-3 in the Yankee Conference.

The Ladies return to action Sunday, Feb. 1 when the visit the Green Knights of Vermont Tech at 1 p.m., then it's on to Hesser College to face the Blue Devils on Thursday, Feb. 5 at 8 p.m.


Lady Mustangs come up short against NHTI

CONCORD — Meagan Pennock tallied 19 points and Jess Hardiman added 17 as New Hampshire Technical Institute edged Central Maine 56-53 in a Yankee Conference match up on Friday.

Despite a 30-26 halftime lead and holding a 38-29 rebounding advantage, the Mustangs (12-5) couldn't solve the Lynx (8-11) and lost consecutive games for the first time this season.

Michelle Holmquist's double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds) led the Mustang attack while Katie Martin added seven points and nine boards and Tiffany Seams hit a pair or treys for six points.

The Lady Mustangs fall to 8-3 in the Yankee Conference and will host the Eastern Maine Community College Golden Eagles on Tuesday at 6 p.m.


Lady Mustangs run out of time against SMCC

AUBURN - Sonya O'Tash tied her season-high with 29 points as Southern Maine Community College edged Central Maine 64-60 before a packed house at Kirk Hall Gymnasium on Wednesday.

The Mustangs trailed throughout, closed to within a point on multiple occasions, but couldn't find an answer for the Seawolves' star forward. It was the Mustangs' fourth loss of the season and second to SMCC.

Sara Martin paced the Mustang offense with 14 points, hitting three from behind the arc.

Tiffany Seams and Michelle Holmquist tallied 10 points apiece and combined for 13 rebounds while Kayla Ellis registered seven points and Katie Martin added six.

The Lady Mustangs fall to 12-4 on the season and 8-2 in the Yankee Conference. They'll take on the Lynx of NHTI in Concord, NH on Friday, then return to Kirk Hall to battle the Golden Eagles of Eastern Maine Community College on Tuesday, Jan. 27 at 6 p.m.


Lady Mustangs dispatch Moose

AUBURN - Michelle Holmquist tallied a double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds as Central Maine Community College edged the University of Maine Augusta 65-62 in a Yankee Conference tilt on Monday.

After falling behind by four at the break, the Mustangs (12-3) brought the pressure in the second half and muscled the ball inside to Holmquist, who scored 20 points in the final frame.

Tiffany Seams hit three from behind the arc and finished with 17 points while Sara Martin and Kayla Ellis added six points apiece.

Katie Martin and Kerri Harris combined for eight assists.

Jennifer Lola led the Moose (8-11) with a game-high 31 points while Danielle white added nine.


Lady Mustangs fall to Shipbuilders

AUBURN - Rahhann Lewter tallied 21 points, 12 rebounds and five assists to lead Apprentice School in a 78-56 victory over Central Maine Community College on Friday.

Both teams are ranked in the top 20 of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association.

The Mustangs (11-3) trailed by six at the break, but the Shipbuilders (6-9) came out strong in the second half shooting 62 percent from the floor while yielding just 32 percent to the Mustangs.

Michelle Holmquist paced the Mustangs offense with 11 points. Tiffany Seams hit three treys for nine points and Kayla Ellis added eight points and four steals. Katie Martin cleared the glass with 10 rebounds. Teira Durgin and Sara Martin led the bench with six points apiece.

The men and women Mustangs now prepare for a three Yankee Conference games in five days. The University of Maine Augusta Moose visit on Monday (Men 6pm, Women 8pm). Both squads will seek revenge against Southern Maine Community College as they host the Seawolves on Wednesday (Women 6pm, Men 8pm), then it's off to the Granite State to visit the New Hampshire Technical Institute Lynx on Friday.


Lady Mustangs roll over Rams

AUBURN - Tiffany Seams, Katie Martin and Britney Salley each scored 12 points and Danielle Hebert added 11 as Central Maine Community College blew by Unity College 91-15 in a Yankee Conference matchup on Thursday.

The Mustangs (11-2) pressed from the opening tip, forced 45 turnovers and allowed one field-goal in the first half en route to a 47-4 lead at the break.

Kayla Ellis tallied six of the Mustangs 42 steals and Katie Martin pulled down six rebounds.

Kelly Safford led the Rams (1-11) with five points.

The Mustangs improve to 6-1 in the Yankee Conference.


Mustangs struggle against Seahawks

AUBURN - Leona Virgo drained 13 points as Briarcliffe College of New York shut down CMCC 63-52 at Kirk Hall Gymnasium on Friday.

The Mustangs struggled from the floor throughout the contest and trailed for the first 17 minutes of the game.

Tied at 43 midway through the second half, the Seahawks pressured the Mustangs into multiple turnovers en route to a 20-9 run, handing the Mustangs their first home loss of the season.

Freshman standout Michelle Holmquist tallied a double-double, pouring in a game-high 20 points and hauling down 10 rebounds for the Mustangs.Tiffany Seams hit four 3-pointers and finished with 16 points while Teira Durgin added 11.


Seams, Mustangs back on track

AUBURN - Familiar sights were abound at Kirk Hall Gymnasium on Tuesday night as Tiffany Seams was back on the floor and the Lady Mustangs returned to their winning ways with a 70-48 victory over Trois-Rivieres of Quebec.

Seams, playing in her second game since suffering a knee injury on Nov. 13, poured in a game-high 15 points, hit three from behind the arc, and led the Mustangs to a 30-27 lead at the break.

The holiday break did little to slow down Michelle Holmquist as she tallied 13 points and eight boards.

Christy McAuliffe also hit double figures for the Mustangs, coming off the bench for 10 points while Teira Durgin and Katie Martin added seven points apiece. Danielle Hebert dished out a team-high four assists.

Amelie Messicotte led the Diablos with 12 points.


Lady Mustangs suffer first loss

SOUTH PORTLAND - The Lady Mustangs suffered their first loss of the season in a showdown between the two top teams in the Yankee Conference on Thursday, as the Southern Maine Community College Seawolves escaped with a 68-65 win at the Hutchinson Union Building.

Michelle Holmquist registered a double-double (19 points, 14 rebounds) and Teira Durgin hit for 13 points, including a pair from behind the arc to lead the Mustangs.

The Seawolves (8-4) had four players in double figures led by Darcey Webster's 19 points. Rachel Del Camp had a strong second half and totaled 11 points and 15 rebounds in the game.

Katie Martin drained a couple of crucial shots down the stretch to keep the Mustangs within striking distance. She finished with nine points and seven boards while Kayla Ellis had a game-high six assists.

Tiffany Seams, who has been out of action since Nov. 13 with a knee injury, was back in action and gave the Mustangs a two point advantage in the closing seconds of the first half.

The Mustangs finish the first half of the season at 9-1 overall and 6-1 in the Yankee Conference.


Lady Mustangs roll over Eastern Maine

BANGOR - With six players in double figures, led by Michelle Holmquist's 19 points, and a double-double by Katie Martin (10 points, 10 rebounds), the Lady Mustangs showed no signs of slowing down with a 95-46 drubbing of Eastern Maine CC on Wednesday.

Kerri Harris (13 points), Victoria Lovely (11) and Christy McAuliffe (10) all registered season-highs in scoring and Kate Dargie hit double digits for the third time this season with 10 points.

Tiffany "Grizz" Lougee pulled down nine rebounds and Danielle Hebert tallied six assists.

Nicky Kaulback paced the Golden Eagles with 16 points.

The Mustangs, ranked fifth in the country, opened a 60-24 lead at the break and never looked back, improving to 9-0 on the season.


Mustangs wear down Vermont Tech

AUBURN - Freshman forward Michelle Holmquist scored a team-high 14 points as Central Maine Community College remained undefeated with an 81-34 rout over Vermont Tech on Sunday.

The Mustangs held a 15 point advantage at the break and wore out the Green Knights with solid defensive attack that surrendered just 12 second half points.

Danielle Hebert led a 43 point effort from the bench with a season-high 12 points while Janessa Thomas drained eight points and pulled down a game-high 10 rebounds.

Victoria Lovely has a breakout game at point guard, dishing out a game-high 10 assists.

Kerri Harris also hit double figures for the Mustangs (8-0) with 10 points.
Eliza Wakefield paced the Green Knights (3-4) with 17 points and eight rebounds.
