CM Sprints Past Machias, 86-64
2/10/2012

The pressure defense and up-tempo offense of the Lady Mustangs bothered the Clippers of UMaine-Machias from the opening tip as CM jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead and never looked back. The Lady Mustangs combined for 23 assists and 57% shooting from the floor in their regular season finale. CM finishes the season with a 11-5 YSCC record (14-9 overall) and earned the #4 seed in the upcoming Yankee Conference Tournament in Concord, NH. The Mustangs are set to play in-state rival, SMCC, in their quarterfinal game.


VUL rips CM, 81-56

The Mustangs had no answer for the Dragon's height and depth, giving up 23 offensive rebounds and turning the ball over 20 times. VUL jumped out to a big lead early on, but the Mustangs put together a few runs before the Dragons surged at the end of the first half, building a 20-point lead. The Mustangs were led by Maggie Sabine (16 points 13 rebounds) & Ariel McConkey who netted 10 points. CM looks to get back on track Friday night, when they host UMaine-Machias in their final Yankee Conference regular season game.

CM 82 – SM 56

In a game live in the internet and with the home fans leading the way --- The night began with the CM Lady Mustangs lighting up SMCC 82-56. Danielle McCusker led the way with 22 points and 7 rebounds. In a close first half game, the Mustangs used an early 2nd half 18-0 run to put the game away for good. The 18-0 run was fueled by the Mustangs relentless pressure defense powered by seniors Kayla Ellis and Teira Durgin.


VERMONT TRIP
Saturday, 2/4/12

The Lady Mustangs showed up to play after a 4.5 hour bus trip. CM jumped out to an early lead on the Fighting Saints of the College of St. Joseph and never looked back. The Mustangs used full-court pressure and their depth to push CSJ to their breaking point. Karlee Biskup scored the Mustangs first 8 points (2 3's) and finished with 15 points. CSJ made a late run to cut the CM lead to 4, but the Mustangs responded with a 7-0 run of their own to put the game out of reach. Danielle McCusker scored a game high 22 points while shooting 9-11 from the floor. Maggie Sabine came off the bench and recorded 17 points and 9 rebounds. CM won 74-61 setting the stage for an intense Men's matchup between CSJ and CM.
The CM Men's team played a VERY good CSJ team that had buried them in the first semester. The Mustangs came to play, and battled the Fighting Saints on every possession. Trailing by only 5 at the half, CM fell behind by 15 mid-way through the 2nd half. The Mustangs made a phenomenal run cutting the CSJ lead all the way down to 3, before falling 66-60 in an intense battle. The Mustangs were paced by another Tyler Smithgall double-double, which included 22 points. Captain, Nick Hinkley tallied 14 points, including 4 3's in the loss.

Sunday, 2/5/12

The Lady Mustangs were ready to go yet again, this time against VTC in a game that started at 11:00am. CM again jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. Danielle McCusker again led the Mustangs with 29 points. Kayla Ellis, Teira Durgin, and Ariel McConkey led the relentless pressure defense that forced over 25 TO's. CM jumped out to a 33-13 halftime lead, and rolled to a 64-42 victory against the Knights of VTC.
Motivated from the tough loss the night before, the CM Men's team came out roaring against a very good VTC team. The Mustangs held VTC to just 17 first half points, while scoring 36 of their own. Nick Hinkley led the Mustangs on both ends of the floor playing stellar defense and scoring 24 points. Tyler Smithgall recorded a double-double that included 16 points and 12 rebounds. Last year's YSCC Player of the Year, VTC's Kevin Carr exploded in the 2nd half hitting 5 3's to make the game tight in the last few minutes, but CM held on for the 74-63 victory.


CM spanks Unity

CM 83 - Unity College 16

The Mustangs raced out to a 18-1 lead and never looked back, as they built up a 47-7 lead at the half. The outmanned rams only scored 9 points in the second half. CM used full court pressure defense to build their early lead. The Mustangs were paced by Ariel McConkey (Fryeburg, ME) who tallied 16 points 8 rebounds and 7 steals. Lisbon native, Jenn Caton scored 11 points and recorded 7 steals, while Maggie Sabine (Litchfield, ME) finished the game with 12 points and 9 rebounds.

CM improves to 9-8 on the year and 7-5 in the Yankee conference. The Mustangs are back in action Wednesday, February 1st, when they travel to EMCC in a crucial Yankee Conference matchup.


CM falls late to UMA

UMA 64 - CM 60

UMA Moose came from 12 down in the 2nd half with a strong surge with 7 minutes to go to take the lead for good and defeat the Mustangs 64-60. The Moose were led by senior center, Katie Poirier (Dexter) who finished with 16 points and 11 rebounds and also recorded her 1,000th career collegiate point.

The Mustangs, who fall to 6-5 in the Yankee Conference and 8-8 overall, were led by Danielle McCusker (South Portland) who tallied 19 points. Karlee Biskup (North Yarmouth) & Keaira Jackson (Houston, TX) both chipped in with 11 points.

The Mustangs are back in action on Thursday, when Unity College comes to town for a 6:00pm YSCC matchup.


CM handles NHTI

The Lady Mustangs pushed the tempo and led the entire game enroute to a 67-60 victory over NHTI. The Mustangs who loss to the Lynx during the first semester, used defensive pressure to out-run the undermanned Lynx.

Maggie Sabine led CM with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Tiera Durgin scored 12 points and posted 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 8 steals. Danielle McCusker & Ariel McConkey scored 11 & 10 points respectively.

With the win the Mustangs improve to 8-7 overall and 6-4 in the Yankee Conference, and will be back in action Monday to take on UMA.


UMFK torches CM
1/16/2012

The Bengals roared out to a huge lead from the opening tip and never looked back winning their 3rd game in 3 days (UMA, Thomas, CM). The short-handed Mustangs were dominated in the paint by UMFK's trio of 6-footers.

UMFK’s 6'2" Freshman Center, Ericka Christensen (Medomak Valley HS) scored a team high 13 points with a like-number of rebounds.

Sophomore, Danielle McCusker (South Portland HS) led all scorers with 22-points. McCusker was the lone Mustang in double figures, while UMFK had 4 with double digits.


John Abbott College blows past Mustangs, 91-33
1/8/2012

John Abbott College (Montreal) trounced the Mustangs in what was CM’s first game since 12/16. The undermanned Mustangs (only 8 players able to play), got down big early on ansd could never claw their way back into the game. The Islanders of John Abbott College used hot shooting from behind the arc to connect on 17 of 24 3-point FG’s. Sophomore, Danielle McCusker (South Portland, ME) was the lone offensive standout for the Mustangs, scoring 16 points coming off the bench.


UPSET ALERT, CM shocks #2 Briarcliffe College, 45-43
12/16/2011

CM upset undefeated #2 Briarcliffe College 45-43 on Friday. The Mustangs trailed by as much as 7 early in the game before taking a 2 point half time lead.

Sophomore guard, Karlee Biskup (North Yarmouth, ME) came off the bench to lead CM with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Jaime Swart (Lewiston, ME) chipped in with 11 points and 6 rebounds & Lisbon native, Jenn Caton, contributed 11 points and an unbelievable pass in transition to Biskup for a layup with under a minute to play to give CM the lead for good.

With the win, CM improves to 7-5 on the year, while Briarcliffe falls to 10-1. CM will be back in action on 1/8/12 to take on John Abbot College.


SM clips CM
12/14/2011

SMCC had all 11 players score and pulled away in the 2nd half to defeat the Mustangs 56-34. Freshman Guard, Emily Bard, led the way for SM knocking down 5 3-pointers, and finishing with a game high 21 points. Fresh center, Marissa Welch led the SM intyerior attack, scoring 11 points and pulling down 11 rebounds. The Mustangs only traileds by 5 at the half, but went cold from the floor shooting under 25%.

Freshman forward, Morgan Copp (Mechanic Falls, ME) and Sophomore forward, Kailey Martin (Lewiston, ME) played great off the bench for CM. Copp took 3 offensive fouls in yet another stellar defensive effort. The Mustangs host #2 Briarcliffe College on Friday in their last game of the 1st semester.


CM routs Hampshire College

Four mustangs hit for double figures as CM whipped Hampshire College 62-31 in Yankee Conference action. Tierra Durgin led all scorers with 18 pts followed by Lewiston alum Jamie Swart’s 16 pts and Kalee Martins 14 pts. Morgan Copp chipped in with 11 pts. The ladies jumped out early and never looked back. The ladies have an early bus trip to Machias to take on the Clippers at 2pm tomorrow.


NHTI Pulls Away from CM, 56-40

In Yankee Conference play, the injury riddled lady mustangs dropped a 56-40 contest to the visiting NHTI Lynx last night. This was a back and forth game for 30 minutes before the Lynx broke the game open to secure the victory. Karlee Biskup and Danielle McCusker combined for 29 pts for CM. The ladies have some much needed time off and will host VTC Dec 3rd.

CMCC 42 - EMCC 36

The Lady Mustangs maintained steady pressure throughout the game to beat EM 42-36. Teira Durgin and Dannielle McCusker combined for 29 points to lead CM. A sloppy game, the Mustangs applyed full court pressure for 40 minutes to wear down the visitors and created havoc on the defensive end.


CMCC 56 - CSJ 34

The Women's Basketball team defeated the Fighting Saints of CSJ 56-34 last night in their YSCC opener, and improve to 2-1 overall. The Mustangs forced over 45 turnovers and held CSJ to just 11 first half points. Leading the Mustangs were Teira Durgin (11 points, 5 steals), Danielle McCusker (11 points 5 rebounds), Karlee Biskup (11 points, 6 assists, 4 steals), Jaime Swart (9 points 5 rebounds), & Jenn Caton (6 points 9 rebounds). The Mustangs host YSCC in-state rival EMCC Tuesday night at 6:00p.
