Lady Mustangs Capture Yankee Tournament Championship --- Off to the USCAA National Tournament!
The #4 Lady Mustangs came from behind to defeat #2 Clippers of Maine-Machias and win the Yankee Conference Tournament, 70-64. Trailing at the half by 3 and by as much as 11 in the 2nd half, the Mustangs full-court pressure and depth finally withered the hard-fighting Clippers, taking their first lead of the game with 5 minutes to go in the game. After trading baskets with the second seeded Clippers, CM used an 8-0 run to put the game out of reach.
CM was paced by Ariel McConkey's 20 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals. Senior, Kayla Ellis, led the relentless defensive charge and poured in 13 points, Danielle McCusker scored 11 of her 13 points in the 2nd half, and Maggie Sabine came off the bench to record her 3rd double-double of the tournament, notching 14 points and 11 rebounds.
CM's Ariel McConkey was named the Tournament's Most Outstanding Offensive Player.
CM's Maggie Sabine was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player.
With a clean sweep in the Yankee Conference Tournament, the Mustangs improve their record to 17-9 and win their 4th Yankee Conference Championship.
The Mustangs have accepted the Yankee Conference Automatic Bid
into the USCAA National Tournament which takes place March 6-10 in
Pennsylvania.

The Lady Mustangs blew past the Seawolves early in the second
half to win their quarterfinal game in the Yankee Conference Elite
8. CM built up a 10-point first half lead before SMCC made a run
just before intermission to tie the game at 36. The Lady Mustangs
scored the first 8 points of the 2nd half and never looked back,
building up a 22 point lead late in the 2nd half. CM was paced by
Maggie Sabine who scored 24 points and pulled down an impressive 15
rebounds. Danielle McCusker tallied 13 points and Karlee Biskup
recorded 10 points and 5 assists.
CM advances to face the #1 UMA on Saturday (12p) in the Final Four
of the Yankee Tournament.
