Fall 2010
2010 Season Summary:
The Inaugural 2010 CMCC Women’s soccer season was highlighted by a number of memories that will always be listed as first. We started in late August with limited numbers that soon grew to 16 players. On September 4th we played our first women’s soccer game vs. Vermont Tech. Two days later, Danielle McCusker is credited with scoring our first ever goal vs. Masscoiat CC. Three days later, CMCC Mustangs were victorious against Eastern Maine Community College for our first win. After some extremely competitive games we were rewarded with another standout victory vs. University of Maine – Augusta by a score of 6-3. It was also a standout game because the teams coordinated with the CMCC by hosting a “wear pink” Breast Cancer Awareness Day were all money was donated to the Cancer Society. The Mustangs have come together as a tight knit team and finished the season with a close loss to SMCC 2-1 at South Portland and remained positive and upbeat as the season came to a close. We look to a productive offseason in the new weight and fitness room and playing indoor soccer. “I would like to thank all who were involved in making this 2010 campaign such a success. It will not be forgotten and I look to next year for more growth as a soccer program and as the newest members of the CMCC athletic family.” - Coach Rick Meyers

SMCC 2, CMCC 1
In a blustery contest in South Portland CMCC finished their season with a 2-1 away loss. The wind at the mustangs back provided multiple scoring opportunities but the SM Goalkeeper would deny each shot. A SMCC breakaway lead to a first half goal and it would remain 1-0 into the break. The CMCC squad was playing into a strong wind in the second half but kept possession until at 21 minutes in Danielle McCusker scored her team leading 8th goal and 18th point making her one of the standouts in our conference. She dribbled from half field tightly marked and slipped the ball into the right corner. The Sea wolves did mount a comeback by scoring off a cross with 14 minutes remaining. The score would hold up even after some spirited play by CM as time ran down. Marley Stevens (Jay, Livermore Falls) had a chance that went inches wide with under a minute left. “I’m proud of the effort and hard work shown tonight by our women and it has mirrored the growth of this first year program”, said Coach Rick Meyers. Uniform collection and Banquet details will coincide with the conclusion of the men’s playoff schedule.

NHTI 5, CMCC 1
Once again, a Tale of two halves. CMCC (2-5-0) took the field and
during the first half played even with the league leading Lynx.
Early chances by CM’s Danielle McCusker and Kayla Roy were
turned away by a solid back line of NHTI. The game continued back
and forth until the mid way point when NHTI’s Kacie Paradie
slipped in behind our defenders and slotted the ball into the let
corner at 20:07. CMCC gained momentum and seemed to come alive from
that point on. Dominating the last 25 minutes and CMCC was rewarded
5 minutes before half when Kayla Roy (Lewiston HS, Lewiston, ME)
received a through ball at midfield and raced toward the Lynx
penalty box with a defender on her hip; Roy’s hard low shot
to the right corner beat NHTI keeper Serena Quillin for her second
score of the season. Both teams were surprised at the tie score at
the half.
The second half turned NHTI around and the home team came out strong. They limited CM chances and were rewarded 10 minutes in with a rebound goal off the post for the game winner. The CMCC team then gave up a penalty kick minutes later to make the score a difficult 3-1 deficit. CMCC defense lead by Ariel McConkey, Karlee Biskup and Allyson Oldham played with heart and courage but the NHTI team added two more late in the half to leave the score 5-1. CMCC last contest is with SMCC on Thursday.

CMCC 6, UMA 3
The CMCC Women (2-4-0) took the field Thursday wearing pink
shoelaces for boosting Cancer Awareness and kicking off with a Pink
Ball only boosted the teams spirits and energy as Danielle McCusker
(South Portland HS, South Portland, ME) opened up the scoring in
the 10 minute with a well placed shot under UMA Goalkeeper Beth
Fisher. Fisher had no let up as CM unleashed 10 shots in the half
on her net. Kayla Roy (Lewiston HS, Lewiston, ME) added a second
goal at the midway point of the half. Roy also assisted on McCusker
next score at the 32 minute mark. The UMS team was back on their
heals as McCusker added two more before halftime first assisted by
Nikki Hamilton ( Greenville HS, Greenville ME) and the final goal
of the half unassisted into the upper right corner. The second half
UMA corrected the line up and Ashley Peaslee scored the first of
her two second half goals with a long lofted shot that beat CMCC
Goalkeeper Celeste Michaud (Jay HS, Livermore Falls, ME). Michaud
would turn away two point blank shots and register seven second
half saves of her busy day. UMA sharpshooter Jessica St. Amand
would add a late breakaway goal but not to be out done, McCusker,
put the final and 5th goal of her unprecedented scoring
barrage. Danielle McCusker currently leads the team in scoring with
12 points, and has set a benchmark mark for scoring during this
inaugural season. CMCC next game at NHTI on Saturday, Oct. 2.
Sept. 16
SMCC 4, CMCC 1
We lost a tough battle at home. We outshot SM but they converted on most of their shots and CMCC could only muster an unassisted late goal by Arline Howe.
Sept. 12
Unity 5, CMCC 1
The CMCC Mustangs started off strong with multiple chances
on goal in the first 10 minutes of the contest. Danielle
McCusker’s shot ricocheting off the post gave life to the CM
early surge. A slick combination play by Unity down the left wing
by Ashley Crocker set up the first of her three assists as she fed
Kristy Manual in the CMCC box to score the first of her 3 goals on
the day. CMCC gained momentum and 15:20 the half a goal by Kylie
Rolbecki (Mt. Abram, Stratton, ME) assisted by McCusker, put CM on
the score sheet. CMCC had injury problems later in the half and
unity took advantage and followed up with goals from Melanie Renell
and Michelle Wagner. CMCC played hard in the second half but were
stopped in front of the Unity goal, most notably; a late breakaway
by Nikki Hamilton that Unity goalkeeper Sash Hamlin came out of her
net and came up with the ball 15 yards from her net, to stop the
CMCC attack. CMCC plays again Thursday.
Sept. 9
CMCC 4, EMCC 1
Under cloudy skies at CMCC field, the Mustangs came up with a 4-1
win over Eastern Maine Community College. After a slow start by CM
women, the team gathered momentum and kept play in the EMCC end
until at the 34:00 minute mark, when Danielle McCusker (SPHS, South
Portland, ME) scored her second goal of the early season. Nikki
Hamilton scored the game winner and first of her two goals in the
game at the 30:00 minute mark of the first half. Freshman standout
midfielder Kylie Rolbecki (Mt. Abram, Stratton, ME) buried a 15
yard rocket into the right corner, eight minutes before the half to
make it 3-0 at the half. EMCC forward Rochelle Nadeau took a second
half breakaway and notched the ball by CMCC goalkeeper Celeste
Michaud (Jay, Livermore Falls, ME) to make the score 3-1 until in
the closing minutes Nikki Hamilton broke in behind the defense to
collect her second goal of the evening. CMCC Women outshot the
visitors 30-5.
The next game is at Unity College on Sunday, September 12th at noon. The CMCC women are now 1-2-0 and EMCC are 0-1-0.
Sep. 6
Massasoit 6, CMCC 1
On Labor Day, we ran into a buzz saw from Massachusetts. After 15
minutes of spirited play, Masscoiat scored halfway through the
first half and that opened up a scoring spree that ended at half
with us down 4-0. We regained momentum when in the second half,
striker Danielle McCusker( South Portland HS, South Portland, ME)
was credited with CMCC Women’s soccer first ever soccer goal!
She was assisted by Captain Arline Howe with a nice weighted
through ball that Danielle collected and slotted into the right
corner of the net passed a sprawled out Masscoiat goalkeeper. Later
in the second half, after three consecutive yellow cards for
unsportsmanlike play from Masscoiat, one of our players received a
Red caution card and CMCC was forced to play a man down for the
remainder of the game. Midfielders Kerstin Kenney (Lisbon HS,
Lisbon, ME) and Kylie Rolbecki (Mt. Abram HS, Stratton, ME) also
had a solid performance in the loss.
Sep. 4
Vermonth Tech 7, CMCC 0
In our First game we held last year’s playoff team to three
goals in the first half. Going into the second half on the strong
play of Goalie Celeste Michaud (Jay/Livermore Falls) we only
conceded four more in the second half after running out of steam
due to lack of substitutes and injuries.
