SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team took down the rival Mustangs from Central Maine Community College (CMCC) 23-13 in the first of a three-game series (Friday, April 92) that will determine the #1 playoff seed.

Prior to the game, Head Coach Nic Lops and the SMCC Athletics Department recognized four graduating players for their leadership and commitment to the program—Emerson Tucholski (Westlake, Ohio), Liam Jann (Philadelphia, Pa.), Matthew Tufts (Wells, Maine), and captain Cameren Cousins (Wells, Maine).

Both teams exchanged run-scoring innings in the first—CMCC's Caden Truman connected for a three-run blast and SMCC's Andrew Martin (Dracut, Mass.) and Michael O'Brien (Franklin, Mass.) went for back-to-back blasts.

The lead exchanged hands again in the third inning and was solidified by the SeaWolves when the offense posted six more runs in the bottom half of the fourth—Tufts and first-year Justin Colon (Aguada, Puerto Rico) added to the homerun frenzy. 15 hits matched SMCC's largest outpour of runs this season.

Jann earned the start for the SeaWolves followed by a committee of two out of the bullpen that featured Kalin Marum (Port Kembla, Australia) and Tyler Apodaca (Kittery Point, Maine).

The result moves SMCC to 21-11 overall, 5-1 in league play; CMCC stands 32-15, 5-2 YSCC.

The series continues on Sunday, May 1 when the SeaWolves travel to Auburn, Maine for a doubleheader with the Mustangs. Game times are scheduled for 12:00/2:00 p.m.
