AUBURN, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team secured the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) #1 seed with a doubleheader sweep of Central Maine Community College (CMCC) on Sunday, May 1.

Game 1: W, 11-8 [BOX]

CMCC rattled off four runs to begin the game before the SeaWolves offense answered the bell with four of their own in the top of the third—Anthony Sayers (Benoni, South Africa), Sam Keblinsky (Ellsworth, Maine), and Gabriel Rivera (Caguas, Puerto Rico) all with RBI-singles.

The Mustangs took an 8-5 lead into the final inning, but with one gone in the seventh Sayers lined a bases-loaded double to clear the bases that gave SMCC a 9-8 lead. The SeaWolves tacked on two more and then turned to Sayers again, this time on the mound, in the bottom-half of the inning to notch the save.

Game 2: W, 11-10 [BOX]

Both sides were knotted 10-10 after six innings of seesaw action. It was first-year Justin Colon (Aguada, Puerto Rico) who delivered the go-ahead hit in the seventh, a double to left field, to score first-year Derek Hoh (Methuen, Mass.). Colon recorded three hits and four RBI in five trips to the dish.

Coach Nic Lops used a committee of five arms to get it done in the second game of the twin bill. First-year Kalin Marum (Port Kembla, Australia) earned the win throwing 1.1 innings of two-hit baseball; Sayers struck out the side in the seventh to pick up his second save of the day.

The sweep pushes SMCC to 23-11 overall, 7-1 in league play. CMCC concludes its regular season at 32-17, 5-4 YSCC.

The SeaWolves will round out their regular season in Haverhill, Mass. when they take on the Knights of Northern Essex Community College in a single 9-inning affair. First-pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
