Women’s Soccer Suffers Competitive Loss In YSCC Finale

AUBURN, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team was defeated 1-0 by the Mustangs of Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in what was the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) regular season finale for both teams on Wednesday, Oct. 6.

The SeaWolves took a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute when junior captain Paige Lord (Pittsfield, Maine) converted on a penalty kick for her eighth score of the season—the score held until the half.

CMCC's Samantha Belardo came to the rescue to score three goals in the course of 14 minutes to power the Mustangs to a 3-1 victory.

The result moves SMCC to 4-5 overall, 1-4 in league action. CMCC gets to 6-6 on the season, 2-3 YSCC.

The Lady SeaWolves conclude their regular season with a trip to Bristol Community College in a non-conference meeting on Monday, Oct. 11. Kickoff in Fall River, Mass. is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Playoff Picture

SMCC will finish as the fifth seed to get another look at CMCC (4) in a YSCC play-in game in Auburn, Maine the weekend of Oct. 16-17—date and time has not yet been announced. The winner of this game will advance to the Final Four in Concord, N.H. on Oct. 23.
