SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's volleyball program finished its third season in existence with a first ever Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) finals appearance. The championship tournament was hosted by SMCC on Sunday, Oct. 22.

Previous to the contests, junior captain Rachel Pardi (Portland, Maine) was awarded All-Conference recognition; sophomore Anna White (Buxton, Maine) earned an Honorable Mention selection.

The #3-seeded Seawolves defeated the #2-seeded Bobcats from Paul Smith's College 3-0 in the semifinal round; SMCC lost both regular season meetings in straight sets.

The home squad advanced to the championship game to take on the reigning conference champions and top-seeded Mustangs from Central Maine Community College (CMCC). SMCC won the first set, before CMCC took the next two in convincing fashion. The Seawolves were unable to force a fifth set, falling 25-21.

In the post-game, sophomore Breanna Kerr (Lawrenceville, Ga.) was named the Outstanding Defensive Player of the tournament.

The Seawolves conclude their historic season at 8-9 overall, 5-5 in conference action.

Head Coach Garrett Lewellen commented, "The program took a jump today and set a new bar moving forward. I'm so extremely proud of the effort and passion displayed when it counted the most, the future is bright for SMCC volleyball!"
