AUBURN, Maine—The #5-seeded Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team took down the #4-seeded Mustangs of Central Maine Community College (CMCC) in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Play In game on Monday, Oct. 18.

First-year forward Mackenzie Farnham (South Portland, Maine) netted her fourth goal of the season midway through the first half on a threaded ball from captain Paige Lord (Pittsfield, Maine) that found its way in and behind the Mustang defense. Farnham received and turned a defender inside to slot a near-post shot by CMCC's Emma Johnson.

In a win-or-go-home scenario, this was the only advantage SMCC needed before playing sound defense the rest of the way behind standout efforts by sophomore center back Desiree Veilleux (Winslow, Maine) and goalkeeper Ella Campbell (Windham, Maine).

Head Coach Ethan Wells stated, "We went into this one with a very specific blueprint in mind. The ladies executed to a tee, putting forth individual performances that made it possible. The team rallied behind the idea of avenging the loss a week prior, a tough task against a Mustang team that has played some of its best soccer as of recent. We are hoping to carry this momentum forward as we prepare for a Final Four appearance."

The Lady SeaWolves will line up with the top-seeded and undefeated Panthers from Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in the conference semifinals on Saturday, Oct. 23. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:15 p.m.

The Final Four will play out on the campus of NHTI in Concord, N.H.—the conference championship game set for Sunday, Oct. 24. All games will be live streamed on the YSCC Sports Network available via the network app on mobile or smart TV devices.
