Mustangs splitt with NHTI

Auburn, ME- The NHTI Lynx traveled to CM on Sunday for baseball action. With seven lead changes in a tight game, the Mustangs came out on top for a 4-3 win.

Central Maine finally managed to grab the lead after a strong fifth inning. A wild pitch scored Matthew Turner to give Central Maine the lead for good.

Central Maine's Mike Muise was perfect at the dish, going 3-3. He singled in the first, third, and fifth innings.

Nick Bagley got the win for the Mustangs. He allowed three runs over six innings. Bagley struck out nine, walked none and gave up nine hits.

Zach Poisson couldn't get it done on the hill for NHTI, taking a loss. He lasted just six innings, walked one, struck out five, and allowed four runs.

The top of the first saw NHTI take an early lead, 1-0. NHTI got things going when Mike Simard doubled. An error then moved Simard from second to third. Simard then stole home.

Central Maine scored one run of its own in the first. Central Maine scored on an RBI single by Muise.

NHTI pushed across one run in both the second inning and the fourth. In the second, NHTI scored on an RBI single by Steve Moran, plating Bryce Twombly.

Central Maine quickly matched NHTI's strong inning with a one-run inning of its own in the second frame. Central Maine scored on an error.

The fifth spelled defeat for NHTI, as the Mustangs grabbed the lead for good. More runners rounded the bases on an error.

In game two action:

A tight game was decided in the eighth inning as Central fell to NHTI 5-3 on Sunday.

Mike Muise reached base three times in the game for the Mustangs. He singled in the sixth inning.

Berlkley Stevens got the win for NHTI. He pitched three shutout innings, striking out two, walking two and surrendered two hits.

Austin Wing took the loss on the mound for CM.. He came in relief for 1 1/3 innings, walked none, struck out one, and allowed two runs.

Central Maine jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first.

NHTI tied the game in the seventh on an RBI single by Chriss Gauss that scored Mike Simard.

Central Maine managed to get the leadoff batter to third with no outs in the bottom of the seventh but couldn't score him.

"We gave ourselves a great opportunity to win the game in the seventh, but two lazy fly balls and a strike out won't get it done" said the Mustang's coach, Ryan Yates.

NHTI didn't relinquish the lead after scoring two runs in the eighth inning when it scored on a solo home run by Jeffrey Quimby and an RBI single by Steve Moran.
