Concord, NH - The Mustangs got a timely hit in the top of the seventh of game 1 en route to a 3-2 victory before falling 13-12 after a walk-off in game 2 on Sunday against the NHTI Lynx.
In game 1, the action was tied at two in the seventh when the Mustangs put together a flurry of one-out hits. Talon Medeiros and Nick Powers both singled before Nik Tormans was hit by a pitch. With the bases loaded, Eric Hoogterp worked the count to 1-2 before chopping a ball over the third baseman to score the deciding run.
Starting pitching was strong on both sides. Kaden Cutler started for the Mustangs and threw 5 innings, allowing four hits and two runs while striking out one. Adam Young started for the Lynx, working all seven. He threw 23 first-pitch strikes and sat down two.
Central Maine knotted the game up at two in the top of the sixth inning, when Nicholis L'Hereux-Carland singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.
Nik Tormans got the win for the Mustangs in relief. He allowed one hit over two innings, striking out one and walking zero.
As the temperature rose for game 2, the bats on both sides heated up. It came down to the last play, but CM ended up on the wrong side of 13-12. The Mustangs went into the seventh with a one run lead before the Lynx put together one final push. They scored one run scored on a throwing error before Derek Canzano singled on a 1-0 count, scoring Bryan Sweet to win it.
Central Maine lost despite out-hitting NHTI Lynx 15 to 8. The Mustangs opened up scoring in the second inning when Nick Powers grounded out, scoring one run. CM tallied four runs in the sixth inning. The offense in the inning was led by Eric Hoogterp and Kaden Cutler, who each had RBIs in the inning.
NHTI Lynx scored four runs in the fourth inning. NHTI Lynx's big inning was driven by by Jason Taylor and an error on a ball put in play by James Cardello.
Aden Stone was the winning pitcher in relief for the Lynx. He lasted one and two-thirds innings, allowing two hits and walking one. Jason Tyler also threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen. Tyler Sargent started the game for NHTI. He lasted five innings, allowing ten hits and eight runs while striking out four.
Nicholis L'Hereux-Carland started the game for CM. He surrendered ten runs on six hits over four and a third innings, striking out four
The Mustangs totaled 15 hits in the game. L'Hereux-Carland, Cutler, Hoogterp, Drake Goupil, and Tormans each racked up multiple hits. Hoogterp, Cutler, and L'Hereux-Carland all had three hits.
The Lynx collected eight hits on the day. Michael Tolman and Canzano managed multiple hits for New Hampshire.
