Mustang Baseball Victorious Against NHTI

Auburn, ME - A 5-run third inning catapults the Central Maine Community College (CMCC) Mustang baseball program to its first win of the 2019 season defeating New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) 13-3.

With CMCC down 1-0 early in the bottom of the second inning, a 2-run home run by shortstop Jordi Valls (Guatemala City, Guatemala) put the Mustangs up by one, which would prove to be a lead they would not give up. Another RBI by Valls in the third, capped off by a 3-run home run by freshman catcher Corey Armstrong (Monmouth, ME) kept the game at 8-1. NHTI would show some life and score 2 in the sixth inning to cut their deficit to 5, but a late eighth inning rally by the Mustang offense would end the game with a score of 13-3 as the Mustangs win their inaugural game at their new home.

Jordi Valls would lead the offensive attack going 4-5 at the plate with 6 RBI and hitting for the cycle. Corey Armstrong went 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBI, while Cameron Godbois (Rumford, ME) added a double and 2 RBI of his own. Second baseman Zach Mann (Gray, ME) also added a 2-4 day at the plate with 3 runs.

Freshman William Bean (Milton Township, ME) picks up his first collegiate win giving up 3 runs on 5 hits in 5.2 innings pitched striking out 2. Sophomore Jordi Valls threw 2.1 innings of no-hit baseball in relief with 4 stirkeouts.

The Mustangs will host Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) on Tuesday, 9/17, for a double header at 5pm and 7pm.
