Mustangs swept by NECC

Auburn, ME - Saturday afternoon was an eye opening experience for the Mustangs as they were swept by nationally ranked NJCAA Northern Essex 10-0 and 9-0. In game 1, starter Rhen Trinidade held the Knights in check for 3+ innings. Trinidade gave up five runs, three earned and struck out four over 4 innings. Offensively, Caden Truman reached base via walk for the Mustangs who were no hit in game 1. NECC was paced by the top of their line up as their first four hitters combined went 7-13 with 7 RBIs. Jayden Voelker pitched six no-hit innings for the Knights.

In game 2, the Knights came out firing scoring five runs in an inning and a third off starter Will Bean. Hunter Warren and Jake Arel held the Knights in check the rest of the way. Caden Truman had the lone hit for the Mustangs on a line drive to the left center gap. The Knights continued their hot hitting with the top of the line up going 8-16. "It was definitely a reality check for a lot of our guys" said head coach Ryan Palmer. "The pitcher in game 1 was consistently low 90's. Most of our guys are not used to that. Its not an excuse. We need to clean things up defensively."

The Mustangs are back home on Wednesday against Thomas College at 3:30.
