Mustangs, Owls split

Auburn, ME - The Mustangs split a doubleheader with UMPI on Sunday afternoon in Auburn. 

In game one, Corey Armstrong hit a walk off single to plate Jimmy Reed with the winning run in a thrilling come from behind victory over the Owls 6-5. The Mustangs trailed 4-0 before exploding for five runs in the 5th highlighted by a Caleb Valliere two run triple. Corey Armstrong and Caden Truman also had RBI singles and the inning. Shane Sullivan, Valliere and Hunter Warren shared the pitching duties with Warren picking up the win. 

"I'm proud of our guys for not giving up and grinding out a win." said head coach Ryan Palmer. "After falling behind 4-0, it was nice to see some energy towards the end of the game." 

In game two, the Mustangs left the bases loaded in the bottom of the first and that proved to be costly as the Owls ran away with a 11-5 win. Despite leaving 9 runners on the base, the Mustangs pounded out ten hits. Stefan Lesco had two doubles and a single. Will Bean had a double and a triple to pace the offense. "We struggled against the left handed pitcher" said Palmer. "I thought we did a decent job getting guys on base, we just couldnt drive them in." 

The Mustangs host NHTI on Tuesday night in Auburn with a 6pm start.
