Mustangs Split Doubleheader With Quincy

Auburn, ME - The Central Maine Mustangs and Quincy College Granite split a doubleheader in baseball action at the turf facility on the campus of Central Maine Community College Monday afternoon.

In game one, the Granite took advantage of some shaky defensive scoring five runs in the 4th inning on three errors. Stefan Lesco led the offense with two hits including a triple. Reid Cote and Caleb Valliere also added doubles.

Valliere started on the mound and didnt have his best stuff allowing eight runs, five earned in four innings of work. Shane Sullivan quieted the Grante bats not allowing a run in the final three innings. Thr Granite won the game 8-1.

"That was definitely the worst game we played defensively all year" said head coach Ryan Palmer. "We just couldnt get anything going on offense either. It was a nightmare of a game" "But tip your cap to Quincy. They played well"

In game two, the Mustangs couldn't catch a break as the first three innings ended on double plays. Finally after being down 3-0, the Mustangs bats came alive in the 4th inning. RBI singles by Valliere and Cole Brown plated three runs to tie the game. Three more runs in the 5th broke the game open highlighted by a Lesco RBI double and an RBI single by Caden Truman

Hunter Warren started on the mound pitching the first four innings before departing with a shoulder injury. He gave up three runs on three hits. Sullivan came in for relief once again to grab the win.

Lesco finished the day 6-8 with four RBI, two doubles, a triple and a homerun.

"We had a frustrating start to game two but i knew once the bats came alive we would be fine" said Palmer. "Stefan had himself a day hitting the ball all over the park" "We finally have Shane Sullivan healthy and that helps a lot"

The Mustangs host UNE on Wednesday night with a 7pm start.
