Mustangs/Lynx split in Concord

Concord, NH - The Central Maine Mustangs and NHTI Lynx split a doubleheader in Concord on Sunday. The Lynx took the first game 12-1 and the Mustangs regrouped to take game two 15-2.

In game one it was all NHTI as the Mustangs came out flat. Gave up five runs in the first inning and never recovered. Reid Cote had the lone hit for the Mustangs with an RBI single that scored Caden Truman in the 2nd inning. Starter Caleb Valliere struggled with command which elevated his pitch count. After giving up eight runs (five earned) he gave way to relievers Cooper Neleski and Peter McCluskey. The game ended after the 5th inning due to the mercy rule.

Game two was the Jimmy Reed show going 4-4 with four runs scored. Stefan Lesco and Truman each had three hits apiece and combined for six RBI. Cote was also a repeat hitter with three RBI. Shane Sullivan was very efficient on the mound going six strong innings giving up two unearned runs and striking out five. Rhen Trinidade pitched a perfect 7th.

"We got off the bus very flat and had no urgency at all in game one," said head coach Ryan Palmer. "NHTI pounded us in every aspect of the game. Game two was a lot better and we returned the favor," added Palmer. "Shane threw a gem and we got timely hittting from several players."

The Mustangs have a break and travel to South Portland on Friday to take on SMCC.
