Mustangs Pull Away From Golden Eagles

It takes 40 minutes to complete a basketball game, and for the first 20 minutes the Mustangs forgot how to play D but were able to rack up 58 points in the first half en-route to a 112-89 win over the visiting Eastern Maine Community College Golden Eagles.

This was the first game of a four game in five day marathon for the Mustangs.  CM started slow as EMCC hit shot after shot and sliced through the Mustang defense.  Eastern Maine was the first team to test the Mustangs with a run and gun style—one which CM employs itself.  In the middle of the first half the Mustang's full court defensive pressure began to take effect.  Some costly turnovers and immediate baskets allowed the Mustangs to take a 58-47 halftime lead.

Using 15 different players, CM came out swinging the second half and stormed out to a 20-point lead.  EMCC would not go down without a fight and worked hard to keep in the game, but CM's pressure and depth waws just too much.

James Pina led CM with 15 points.

The Mustangs will host Virginia University Lynchburg tomorrow at 6:00pm.
