UMPI Shocks Mustangs

The 22-2 Mustangs dropped a three point game to the University of Maine at Presque Isle 96-93, for their second loss this season.

Traveling five hours north and players battling sickness and flu caught up with CM as the Owls took control of game in the middle of the first half and went to the locker room with a 49-43 advantage.  Running bodies in and out of the game attempting to capture momentum didn't seem to change tempo.

The Owls took a ten point lead with six minutes on the clock.   CM clawed back but couldn't get the lead down in single digits.  The two minute mark came and the Mustangs were able to create some defensive opportunities and turn them into baskets.  When the Mustangs couldn't get a turnover, they put the Owls at the free throw line where UMPI missed seven of their last nine attempts.  With CM narrowing the lead and knocking down shots, UMPI started to panic and allowed the Mustangs to cut the lead to three points with 5.6 ticks on the clock.  A Luis Medina three point opportunity fell short at the buzzer.

Xavier Colbert lead CM with 17 points.
