Mustangs stun Navy prep

Auburn, ME—On the chalk board in the locker room before the game tonight was the quote "talent doesn't always win."  When the undefeated Navy Prep squad walked into Kirk Hall with a front line of 6'8, 6'7 and 6'6 the Mustangs understood the challenges that faced them.  Navy Prep just came off a big win against CM rival SMCC smacking them 100—82 a week earlier.  The scouting report stated they could rebound, shoot the ball and were very disciplined.  To make the night more complicated, CM just played the night before arriving home at 1:30am after getting stung by Quinsigamond Community College.

However, this is CM.  Teams just don't walk into CM and dictate how the game will progress.

The story of the game was the Mustangs ability to contain the big men of Navy Prep allowing limited post entries.  Big men Jonathan Moore (Bridge City, TX) Jordan White (Austell, GA) and Raikwon Rodrigues (Providence, RI) had the enviable task of containing the size of the mid shipmen.  They performed magnificently.

Down by 11 points at the half, CM roared back to take the lead mid-way into the second half.   Again, Elijah Barbour (Reston, VA) came off the bench to ignite a 22-8 run to give the home team a 5 point lead going into the final 5 minutes of the game.

Carrington Miller (Bingham, ME) again demonstrated why he is one of the league's top players-- lead the Mustangs with his third double double in the early season scoring 19 points and hauling down 11 rebounds.  Elijah Barbour came off the bench to bury 17 points.  Rob Skinner (Winsted, CN) chipped in with 14 points and dished out 9 assists.

The win increases the Mustangs record to 4-1.  CM faces Penn State conference contender Penn State Allegheny Sunday at 3pm at CM.
