Mustangs Add Some Size to the Lineup

Auburn, ME- The Central Maine Community College Athletic Department is pleased to announce 2017 Weymouth High School (Massachusetts) graduate, Josh Chery, has committed to the Mustang basketball team for the 2107-18 school year.

Josh was a major contributor for his high school team for the past four years. He was the squad's leading scorer and rebounder in 2014-15 and again in 2016-17. In his senior year, he was named to the all-scholastic team and all-conference team (last three years). In his senior year he averaged 15 ppg and 9 rpg.

Josh's comments:

CM: Why did you choose CM?
Josh: I fell in love with the campus, and after meeting Coach and some of the players, it made me want to come even more.

CM: What did you like best about the campus?
Josh: I love that everyone knows everyone and it's safe. That's the best part!

CM: How do you think playing in college will differ from your high school experience?
Josh: I think as college players that we have more responsibilities to work harder and do everything 100%. Nothing is going to be given; it has to be earned.

CM: What are you most looking forward to about attending and playing basketball at CM?
Josh: Probably having the gym open all day and using the weight room when I want. Also, playing with the coaches and players. It's going to be fun.

CM: What do you think you can bring to the team next year?
Josh: Personality, I can bring the passion for the game, competitiveness, scoring inside and out, rebounding and more. I love the game so I am going to bring everything I have to the table.

CM Coach Dave Gonyea:

Meeting Josh and spending time with his family has been one of the more enjoyable experiences I have had with prospective players. He has a wonderful family support system with an older brother who understands the college system and how to be successful. He is a great guide for Josh. Josh also has healthy respect for his mom and her guidance. The more time I spend with Josh, the more I can see their influence in his daily living. He is just a nice kid. I really owe his high school coach, Jim Dolan, who advocated for Josh and made the connection.

He had the opportunity to play with some of our guys, and has been fortunate enough to play a lot with Pietro Badalassi for whom Josh now has a lot of respect. Our other Aussie, Cam Duncan and Pietro have taken Josh under their wing and provided him with all the guidance he needs to be successful at CM. In basketball terms, he can bang, brings a lot of emotion to the game, shoots the mid-range and can play "D". Watching him bang with "P" and not back down impressed me. His commitment to the game, his work ethic, and his strong 6'4"frame will put him over the top. I am very pleased he selected CM!!
