Mustangs Land Another Committment From Across the Pond

Auburn, ME- The fourth Aussie in the last two years committs to CM! Kenny Huynh, an 18 year old point guard, from Melbourne, Australia, signed on with the Mustangs for the 2017 campaign.

Kenny responded to the questions below:

Why did you choose CM?

The family environment at CM is important to me. I wanted to be a part of a brotherhood and Coach Gonyea really put his trust and loyalty into me and was very honest. Most coaches would look at my size and see a problem but Coach Gonyea looked it at a way where I could help the team. Having the opportunity to play for a great coach who believes in you was something I couldn't pass up, everyone is given a chance at CM.

What did you like most about the campus?

The campus looks beautiful and facilities are great, being able to access the gym 24/7 and put in the extra work really caught my attention.

How do you think playing college basketball will differ from your previous experience?

College basketball will definitely be a bigger challenge physically and mentally, as I expect the game to be a lot faster and players to be bigger and stronger.

What are you most looking forward to about attending and playing basketball at CM?

Making lifelong friends with my teammates, getting stronger and faster, becoming a better person, while winning games and hopefully a championship with my new family. #GoMustangs #PonyUp

What do you think you can bring to the team next year?

Energy on and off the court, spacing on the court with my shooting, and team chemistry with the leadership, composure and work ethic I can bring

Describe your basketball experience.

Floor general-- players like Tyler Ulis or Chris Paul I like to resemble my game like as they can run the team by being an extension of the coach on the court, making the right plays, controlling the tempo of the game and getting all their teammates to buy in and play as a team.

What is your biggest strength in basketball?

My ability to run the team and get everyone involved as well as shooting capability. It doesn't matter who we are up against I feel like my team can do anything.

According to Men's Basketball Coach Dave Gonyea, "Kenny is one of the hardest working players i have seen in a long time.  Watching his workout videos, and his committment to get better, caught my attention.  He really gets after it.  If he brings that mind set to CM, it will not only benefit him, but his teammates as well."

"Some may be concerned that he is a bit undersized for the college game.  I don't.... I think he brings skills to the table that will compensate for any size disadvanage he may encounter.  I am pleased he will be in our program."
