Mustangs Name 2017-18 Basketball Captains

Auburn, ME- Central Maine basketball coach Dave Gonyea is pleased to announce Corey David, Zavier Roman, and Cam Duncan have been selected as captains for the 2017-18 Mustangs.

Roman is the veteran of the group in his third year at CM. He is enrolled in the advanced certificate program in Criminal Justice.   A hard worker on and off the court, he carries a 3.7 GPA into his third year of college.  On the basketball court, Roman has been a vocal team leader and has led by example for the past two years.  Popular with his teammates, Roman will be an important piece of the puzzle for the Mustangs.

Roman adds the following, "This is my third year at CM and I'm really excited to take a leadership position on the team.  I'm ready to help the rookies see what college basketball is all about.  I can't wait to give back to the college.  We have great group of guys who are all willing and ready to work hard and learn.  Through my years at CM, I've learned what it means to have a team become a family.  My goal as captain is to have this team become a family and form bonds that go beyond the court.  I know if that if we can accomplish this, then winning will become second nature.  I can't wait to see this team become a well-oiled winning machine!"

Duncan is a native of Australia and in his second year at CM.  He will graduate this year with a General Studies degree.  A hard worker on and off the court, Duncan is the quintessential "CM" boy representing the Mustangs school wide.  Respected, intelligent, and a great teammate who possess a high basketball lQ, best describes Duncan and his ability to get along and lead by example.

According to Duncan, "being a captain to me is my chance to pass on the knowledge, skills, and leadership that I was given from the previous alumni- to the next generation.  To be a captain at CM means even more as this place has quickly become my home and the people here have done nothing but help me on my journey to be a better player and man.  This opportunity will not go to waste as I have hoped to one day lead the Mustangs since my first practice with the team my freshman year.  So to be given the honor has allowed me to accomplish one of my goals but more importantly, has added fuel to the fire to win at the highest stage we can."

David is a veteran point guard who will be assigned with leading the Mustang attack.  Savvy and quick- with the ability to shoot it, David will be counted on to be the on court leader.  Originally, from Orlando, Florida, and a product of Gameonrise Academy in Florida, his shooting talent and ability to move the ball will place him in the upper echelon of players in the Yankee Conference.  David is a General Studies Student.

David responds to the position, "Me being captain here at CM means a lot to me because it tells me Coach Gonyea and my teammates believe in me on and off the court.  For the younger guys, I can provide knowledge and push them to their ultimate limits.  In addition, it being my first year at CM and being named captain is just an honor.  This place grew quickly on me and so did Coach Gonyea and my teammates.  Therefore, it is only right I want to lead them to a championship!  I want to thank Coach Gonyea and my teammates for allowing me to be their captain and I won't let them down."
