Mustangs Slam SeaWolves in Opener 89-58

Auburn, ME- The Mustangs opened up their season today with a convincing 89-58 stomping of the SeaWolves from the University of New Brunswick St John.  It was the opening round of the 25th annual Can Am basketball tournament held at CM.

All Mustangs touched the floor with Saikwon Williams leading the Mustangs in the scoring column with 17 points.  He also contributed 5 rebounds.

CM jumped out early and took a double-digit lead at the ten-minute mark.  CM rotated twelve players in the early going applying constant on ball pressure to push the lead to thirteen at the midpoint.

Captain Corey David played his normal steady game with a stat line of 8 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds running the Mustangs attack.  Mark McDonald chipped in with 12 points, Nic Dieynck added 9 points with 6 rebounds, and Matt Attard added 7 seven points.

According to CM assistant coach Steve Cyr, "we had some concerns regarding our defense but the kids worked hard to overcome some shortcomings.  Playing many players can be difficult getting all on the same page but we felt like we made progress.  We will get better game by game."

Head Coach Dave Gonyea adds, "all the kids were really pumped up, with this being the first game of many of those kids' college careers.  I was pleased with the effort and passion.  We will build on this."
