Mustangs Win First Yankee Conference Meeting

Mustangs Win First Yankee Conference Meeting

Portsmouth, NH – It took all of forty minutes using 13 players, full court pressure and some timely shooting, but in the end the Mustangs left Great Bay with an 84-83 win over the Herons.

The game was a back and forth affair with many lead changes. CM managed to lead by as many as ten points on two different occasions, but Heron hot shooting kept the game close. At halftime, the Mustangs managed to go to the locker room with a 44-35 lead.  Great Bay came out for the second half on fire and went on a 12-2 run to take the lead.  A Wyatt Hathaway three stopped the bleeding and put the Mustangs back on top 48-47.

The Mustang size played a major role going down the stretch as between Michael Connolly, DeMarco McKissis, Boston Caldwell, and Jaeden Henderson, combined to gather 35 rebounds and control inside play.

A Connolly follow up dunk with 26 seconds left put the visitors up by one.  Despite two missed Mustang free throws with 11 ticks on the clock,  a strong defensive stand held and CM went home on top.

Michael Connolly led all scorers with 17 points and 11 rebounds followed by DeMarco McKissic with 15 points and 9 rebounds.  Boston Caldwell added 16 points and 7 rebounds.  Jaeden Henderson had a career high 8 rebounds. Wyatt Hathaway chipped in with 14 points, and 5 assists.

The win puts the Mustangs at 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the Yankee Conference. CM is back in action Wednesday when they travel to UMA to take on the Moose.
