Mustangs Add Hard Hitting Defensemen

Auburn, ME - The Central Maine Community College Athletic Department is pleased to announce Jacoby Robinson of Bethalto, Illinois has committed to play hockey and soccer at CM next year. A 2017 graduate of Civic Memorial High School, Jacoby is a hard hitting defensemen in hockey and a goaltender in soccer.

We asked Jacoby the following questions:

Why did you choose CM?  I chose CM because I like the opportunity to play both hockey and soccer in a way that I feel I can contribute to both teams. I have also felt very comfortable and at home in my visits that I have taken to the campus.

What did you like the most about the campus? The location of the campus was something that really stood out to me. I liked how it sat back out of the way but it still found a way to be right in the middle of everything. I like having the hockey rink so close also. Having the lake that sits in the back of the campus is always a plus as well. After visiting other larger campuses, I enjoyed the feel of the smaller home feeling campus. It just has a good personal feel.

How do you think playing college hockey will differ from your previous experience? I believe it will differ because of the speed of the game and the size of the players. Being younger than a lot of the players is going to put me at a position to challenge myself but I am very prepared for any challenge that is thrown my way.

What are you most looking forward to about attending and playing hockey and soccer at CM? I am looking forward to the experiences that I will have with the team and a new type of learning that comes with the college life. My academics and athletics are both going to be a whole new experience for me. Having the opportunity to participate in both of these sports at the college level has always been a dream of mine.

What do you think you can bring to the team next year? I am a player that loves to body check and I do it with a passion. I am a lock down defender with a very good understanding of the game and what is going on around me. Having that ability enables me to make plays on both ends of the ice. I do play a very physical style of hockey and I will not back down from anybody. On the soccer field I am an aggressive goaltender. I like to go out and get the ball and limit the scoring opportunities of the opposing team.

Describe your hockey and soccer experience. My hockey experiences started when I was 5 years old and it has only taken off since. I played travel hockey from 2nd grade all the way through my 8th grade year. I started played high school hockey at the JV level in both 7th and 8th grade which will make me the first person to ever play a full 6 years of high school hockey in the local league. I started playing varsity my freshman year and was named a assistant captain my sophomore year then captain for my junior and senior year. During my sophomore, junior and senior year, I played Midget Major AA hockey for a local travel hockey club. My soccer experience goes back to the Boys and Girls Club days when I was 5 years old. I have played on many different soccer teams over the years including indoor and outdoor. My most current experience has been being a four year starting member of my varsity high school team.

What is your biggest strength in hockey and soccer? My biggest strength is my offensive and defensive awareness in all three zones of the ice. This understanding helps me know where to be and makes me a very good defender and puck moving defense man that can start a rush and also stop one that is coming the other way. In soccer I think my leadership ability is a strong point. I also believe my knowledge of the angles of the game really help me to be a better goaltender.
