Mustangs Name Hockey Captains

Auburn, ME – The Mustangs hockey team has selected captains for the 2018-2019 season, Head Coach, Matt Buotte, has announced. Third-year forward Jordy Knoren and first-year defenseman Shawn Sullivan have been named co-captains, with second-year forward Collin Sheehan and third-year forward Drake Goupil named as rotating alternates.

"It's something we as coaches gave a lot of thought to," said coach Buotte after making the announcement to the team on Monday morning. "We wanted to come in and assess things and make a measured decision. We have a deep pool of leadership to draw from on our team, so inevitably there are guys here who won't be wearing letters that could be, which bodes well for the coming year. That said, the four guys we've chosen are all extremely worthy and will do a fantastic job."

Knoren and Sheehan both served as captains in 2017-2018, which saw the Mustangs finish at 10-9-1. Goupil has been a steady presence in the Mustangs line-up since the teams inaugural season, filling a variety of roles throughout the line-up. Sullivan, a graduate of Gorham High School, spent last season playing for the USPHL's South Shore Kings and brings a wealth of experience to the team.

"The four of them offer different styles of leadership," continued coach Buotte. "They bring a diverse approach to the game, but they both exemplify the high character necessary to be a captain at this level. I'm really glad they're on our side and I think that they'll do a fantastic job leading us into a very important season."

The Mustangs season begins September 29th when the team will travel to Darmouth for a 9:00 p.m. faceoff. The first opportunity to catch the new-look Mustangs at home will come Saturday, October 6th, when Bentley College travels to Auburn for a 7:00 puck drop.
