Orono Slaps Around the Mustangs 7-1

Orono, ME. - The Central Maine Community College hockey team was defeated handily on Sunday as six different goal scorers paced the University of Maine Black Bears to a 7-1 victory at Alfond Arena. The loss was the second in three games for the Mustangs and sixth in their last seven contests.

The Black Bears blew a close contest open in the second period after taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Trevor Roche's power play tally late in the period would provide the only offense of the day for the visitors, who were outshot 32-18 on the evening and trailed 4-1 after two periods. Anthony Tilelli stopped 25 shots for the Mustangs in the defeat.

"It was one of our worst efforts of the year," said Mustangs head coach Matt Buotte afterward. "When you play with that little passion, that little enthusiasm, that's the result you get. Credit to Maine, they definitely played a good game and they capitalized on the opportunities they had. But our effort was not good enough to win at this level, period."

The Mustangs will have an opportunity for redemption on Wednesday when they play local rival Bates for the first time in the 2018-19 campaign. The game will be played at Norway Savings Bank Arena at 8:30 p.m.
