Amherst MA,
On the longest road trip of the year so far, the Mustangs were able to put a solid game together to get a crucial 5-2 win
1st period saw both teams creating chances and goaltenders making some great saves to keep the game at 0-0
2nd period the Mustangs stayed patient and were able to get the 1st goal of the night with Evan Knowlton converting after a sweet pass from Jason Melanson. Not very long after Gabe Poirier would finish a wonderful line-rush after a drop pass from Jack Keefe to make it 2-0. Mustangs would get a 5-minute powerplay and create plenty of chances and with a couple of minutes to go in the powerplay Nate Marcotte would find the back of the net. Umass would score a shorthanded to make the score 3-1 in the intermission.
3rd period the Mustangs kept the game simple and after Umass scored the 3-2 the Mustangs kept the foot on the gas and Nate Marcotte would find his 2nd powerplay goal of the night. With a couple of minutes to play Gabe Poirier made a nice face-off play to find Matt Poirier back-door for the 5-2 and the final score of the night!
Coach Knoren Said'' All year we talked about patience and not to get content, I am super happy to see Nate get his 1st and 2nd of the year he has been solid all year and today he got rewarded. The team played a solid road game we are getting healthy again and looking forward to the next challenge''
