Men's Soccer hosts alumni game

Auburn, ME - The 2015 men's soccer team began their preseason with a scrimmage against some of the best CM alumni from the past decade on Sunday, August 30. More than sixteen players from the past came out to show their support for the soccer program and the college.

The alumni didn't take it easy on this year's team and 11 minutes into the match Dylan Mawhinney crossed a ball to Jamiel Kidd who found the back of the net to give the alumni a 1-0 lead.

Not to be out done, 4 minutes later CMCC's Fiston Mubalama (Lewiston, ME) settled a ball outside the 18 yard box and scored past alum goalkeeper Mike Cote to even the score at one each. Just before halftime Tristen Begin (Livermore, ME) found a rebound on the six and put the 2015 team up 2-1.

The second half saw breakaways from both alum Erik Waite and Brandon Morisette but goalkeeper Zachary Lowe (Mechanic Falls, ME) kept the Mustangs in front. With 15 minutes remaining Keeshawn Ferreira sealed the win for this year's team with a goal bringing the final score to 3-1.

After the match Coach Wallace said, "We are all so appreciative for such a strong turnout and the support from the alumni. Several guys travelled from out of state to give back to their school today, and I thank them for their continuing dedication to the program. I am surprised with how this year's team pulled together, I think defensively we played pretty well. We need to work on transitioning a little quicker but I'm happy with the result and how the match went."

The Mustangs continue with a preseason match at University of Maine Farmington, Tuesday September 1 at 3:00pm.
