Mustangs trample Bobcats in home opener

Auburn, ME - In their home opener the Mustangs played Paul Smith's College (NY). Central Maine came out strong and motivated. A minute and a half into the game freshman, Brian Mendez (New Haven, CT) received a ball from senior, Cody Dollof (Peru, ME) who lofted a ball from 35 yards to net the Mustangs their first goal. In the 20th minute Jordi Valls (Guatenala City, Guatemala) slotted a Ball through to senior, Kenneth Ball (Lewiston, ME) leaving an entire Paul Smith's team in the dust, effortlessly chipping the keeper to boost CM to a 2-0 lead.

CM kept that lead going into the second half until a hungry Paul Smiths answered in the 74th minute. Their lone goal was quickly to be answered by another Kenneth Ball goal off of a free kick curling the ball around the wall and netting Central Maine's third goal in the 76th minute. In the last 10-minutes of the game Paul Smith's strived forward ultimately finding success in 82nd minute off of a header. The scoring ended there and CM improved their conference and season record to 4-1 with the 3-2 victory.

After the game, Assistant Coach, Brandon Morissette commented, "We distributed the ball very well today and we took shots when we saw the opportunity. We took our foot off the gas and almost let them back into the game, something we will need to work on moving forward."

The Mustangs are back in action Tuesday, September 18th when they host Unity College i n a pivotal YSCC match-up.
