Mustangs Edge Herons 3-2

Portsmouth, New Hampshire—The Mustangs softball team edged the Herons of Great Bay Community College in game one of their twin bill Saturday by a 3-2 margin.

Sophomore Olivia York (Bethel, ME) took the circle for the Mustangs going the distance. The right-hander struck out five and walked six. Though the game was paced by the defence of second baseman Samantha Belardo who made multiple plays including two key double plays, Stopping the Herons from any attempt to move around the bases.

 The Mustangs jumped on the Herons early when Freshman Alex Bessey got on first, stole second, (3 total) and was knocked in by Aly Sult. The Mustangs scored two in the fourth making it 3-0. The Herons tried to rally in the seventh scoring two runs but was shut down when Hayley Peterson caught a line drive hit to center and threw to Belardo for a game ending double play.

 York earned her first win of the season pitching a complete game; Makayla Herget suffered the loss for the Herons.
