Softball splits with NHTI again

Concord, NH - The CM Softball team traveled to the Lynx of NHTI for double header action Saturday afternoon on a beautiful 80-degree September day. This was the second double header between the two rivals this fall, with the teams splitting earlier in the month in Auburn.

Game 1: NHTI L, 10-2

The Mustangs started game one with first-year Molly Flaherty (Sabattus, ME) who pitched 4 innings allowing 12 hits, 9 runs, 2 walks and 1 strikeouts. The Mustangs turned to Sydney Crocker (South Paris, Me) in the 5th inning. Crocker gave up 4 hits and 1 earned run.

The Mustangs offence only produced 5 hits in game 1. The Mustangs first-year Abby Ferland (Monmouth) had the best hit of the game blasting a double while Megan Theriault (Lewiston, Me) Kiera-Caley Young (Sabattus, ME), Abigail Hanson (Wells, ME) and Maddy Boynton (China, Me) all contributed adding singles.

Taylor Gagnon was the winning pitcher for NHTI

Game 2: NHTI W, 4-1

In game 2, the Mustangs turned to second-year Captain Megan Theriault (Lewiston, ME) to make the start. Theriault pitched a complete game allowing only 3 hits, 8 strike outs while walking only 1 batter and allowing 1 unearned run to cross the plate.

Game 2 saw the Mustangs come out with a different look and feel against the Lynx. With Theriault keeping NHTI off balance at the plate the Mustangs were able to get their bats going and hold on for the win. The Mustangs had 6 hits and were paced by Haley Fernald (Bridgton, ME) who had her first over the fence collegiate Home Run. Theriault helped herself at the plate going 2-3 adding a double and a single. Kiera-Caley Young (Sabattus, ME), Abigail Hanson (Wells, Me), and Abby Ferland (Monmouth ME) all added singles.

After the game Head Coach, Bruce Robertson, commented, "This was a big win for us. NHTI is very tough conference opponent. They have been on top of the YSCC for several years. Game 1 we came out flat and made a few errors that we never recovered from. Game two Megan took control in the circle and we gave her the run support she needed for the win."

Next up, the Mustangs host Northeastern Club Saturday 10/5 for a double header 11/1 pm.
