Women's Basketball Picks Up Committment

We are pleased to announce that Lexi Larson of Penquis Valley HS has committed to play women's basketball next season.  Larson, who was a 1st Team All-PVC player this season in both soccer and basketball, averaged 12.5 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game this past season.  She was also named an MBR All-Star and a 2013 Maine McDonalds Senior All-Star.  In addition to her athletic accomplishments, Larson is also an honor roll student at PVHS where she also served on the Student Council.

According to Lexi, "I committed to CM because of the family atmosphere and the concentration everyone, including the coaches, put on doing well academically.  After visiting I felt supported by not only Coach Morong but also the players on the team.  I felt accepted and as if I was already a part of the team.  It was a very easy decision to commit!"

On playing at the next level…
"The college level is different than high school due to the game being played at a faster pace and not only being physically tough but mentally tough as well.  I will need to bring my A-game the entire time.  In high school I was depended on to get the ball up the court and score in double figures every game but now that I'll be on a team with a lot of talent, I can push myself to become a better overall player."

Coach Morong's comments…
"We are thrilled that Lexi has decided to become a Lady Mustang!  She has a very dynamic game, and will be a high impact player for us from the start.  She had to 'do it all' in high school, and with a lot of pressure.  I think she will flourish at our level; she has tremendous upside.  I think she may end up being the 'steal' of our recruiting class," he said.  "Lexi's commitment continues the trend of high level young women from Maine coming to CM next year.  Not only is she a great athlete, but she is an honor roll student as well.  I believe she has the potential to be a great leader within our women's basketball program and our community."
