Not only did the CM cruise to their 18th straight win, but sophomore standout, Susie French, became only the 4th Lady Mustang to break the 1,000 points barrier. CM jumped out to a 50-10 halftime lead over Unity College, and waltzed to an 87-34 drubbing of the Rams.
Early on, the Rams were flustered by the swarming pressure defense applied by CM. The Lady Mustangs scored 16 straight points in transition and were sparked by the hustle and grit of Maggie McConkey.
The relentless Mustang defense created abundant opportunities for the CM offense, which saw 11 different players score. In just 20 minutes, French finished with a game-high 24 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 assists. McConkey tallied 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 6 steals. Hannah Champagne dished out a game-high 6 assists.
French joins Danielle McCusker, Ashley Swett, and Lynn Girouard as the only 1,000 point scorers in the history of the women's basketball program.
With the win, the Lady Mustangs improve to 20-1 overall and 12-0 in the YSCC. CM travels to UMaine Presque-Isle this Saturday for a 1:00pm game. The Owls are 15-5 overall and were ranked 11th in the latest USCAA DI Coaches Poll.
