Lady Mustangs Fall in Opening Game

CM hosted the University of New Brunswick - St. John this evening as part of the 20th Annual Can-Am Tournament.  The depth and perimeter shooting of the Seawolves proved to be too much for the Lady Mustangs.

CM trailed 35-23 at the half, after shooting just 16% from the floor ion the first frame.  Coming out hot, they were able to cut the lead to 2, just minutes into the 2nd half.  After another Seawolves run that extended the lead back to 14, the Lady Mustangs whittled the lead down to just 2 with the ball.

Gabby Foy led the Lady Mustangs with 18 points (6 3FG).  Laura Soohey started off the season with a double-double, 16 points 14 rebounds.  Captain, Hannah Champagne, led the team in minutes played with her aggressive defense, and freshman Ella Montminy played well off the bench for CM.

UNBSJ was paced by 3 in double figures.  Senior, Rachel Jefferson, paced all scorers with 21 points while pulling down 10 rebounds.  Christie Steeg notched 16 points, while Megan Baisley chipped in with 11.

The Lady Mustangs (0-1) are back in action tomorrow afternoon, when they wrap up Can-Am Tournament play vs. Cegep Champlain St. Lawrence at 1:00pm.
