Huge first quarter leads Lady Mustangs to win

Auburn, ME - A 30-6 first quarter advantage overwhelmed the visiting Owls, and CM coasted to a 85-57 victory over UMaine-Presque Isle.  CM's pressure defense was relentless, forcing 36 turnovers leading to 43 points.

Brooke Reynolds (Poland, ME) led the way with 21 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals.  Eraleena Gethers-Hariston (Auburn, ME) recorded her 3rd double-double in 4 games, finishing with 18 points and 11 rebounds.  Jenny Schlim (Nottingham, NH) was dominant with 13 points, 5 assists, 4 steals, 2 blocks and 1 charge.

Tianna Harriman (Auburn, ME) came off the bench to jump-start the Lady Mustangs.  Harriman who was face-guarded most of the game, finished with 13 points and 6 steals.  Holly Decourcey (Billerica, MA) played with a ton of energy in 9-minutes off the bench.

Coach Morong on the win, "Our effort, execution, and intensity in the first quarter is what we've been expecting all year, but had not seen for a full 10-minutes.  Hopefully, this game is a stepping stone to make us more consistent over the course of a full game.  I was really pleased with Jenny, Brooke, and E asserting themselves so early in the game, and the energy that T and Holly brought off the bench was just what we needed.  I had no idea we put up 30-points in the opening quarter until after the quarter had ended - the huge point total came from their effort and willingness to compete, which is more important than the point total itself."

Sydney Churchill led the Owls with 19 points, while Rhylee Wright finished with a double-double, 10 points and 14 rebounds.

With the win CM improves to 17-1 overall and will back in action this weekend.  The Lady Mustangs travel to Vermont for back-to-back away games.  On Saturday, they play defending USCAA DII National Champions, College of St. Joseph's, and Vermont Tech on Sunday.
