Lady Mustangs cap undefeated home record

Auburn, ME - For the first time in over a decade the Lady Mustangs have finished their home slate undefeated in games in Kirk Hall.  CM ran out to a 34-8 1st quarter lead on their way to a 86-34 dismantling of UMaine-Machias.

Six graduating sophomores were playing in their last home game, and did not disappoint.  Seve Deery-Deraps (Rangeley, ME), Allie Ablondi (Thompson, CT), Taylor Esty (Rangeley, ME), Jenny Schlim (Nottingham, NH), Mikayla Yanez (Lisbon, ME), and Nicole Hamblin (Fayette, ME) combined for 35 points.  Of the six, Deery-Deraps led the way with 10 points, which included two 3's.

The Lady Mustangs overwhelmed the Clippers, forcing 47 turnovers which included 26 steals.  They also dominated the paint, outscoring Machias 56-14 in the paint.  The CM bench otuscored the Machias bench, 59-10, with Brooke Reynolds (Poland, ME) leading the way with 16 points, 7 steals, and 5 rebounds.  Eraleena Gethers-Hairston barely missed another double-double, finishing with 15 points and 9 rebound.  The two Edward Little grads combined to shoot 15-17 from the floor.

Coach Morong on the win, "This was a very special night for an incredible group of young women playing in their last home game.  They have battled through a ton of adversity, off and on the court, over the last two years and have come out stronger.  I am honored to have coached them and that they entrusted our program with their futures."

Alicen Brooks and Amy Carver each scored 10 points for the Clippers.

With the win CM improves to 25-1 on the year and 12-0 in the Yankee Conference.  Two huge road showdowns await them this week.  Up first is SMCC on Wednesday (6:00pm), followed by the last game of the regular season on Friday (8:00pm) in Concord, NH vs. NHTI.  With a win on Wednesday the Lady Mustangs would clinch the YSCC Regular Season Championship, which would be their 3rd in 5 years.
