Lady Mustangs out-duel Knights

Warwick, RI - Constant pressure defense and freshmen rising to the occasion was more than enough to propel CM to a 75-66 victory over CCRI.  Using their significant size advantage, CM out-rebounded the Knights 53-26, and built an 18-point lead early in the 4th quarter.

Brooke Reynolds (Poland, ME) recorded a triple-double of 16 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 steals.  At one point in the 2nd half, Reynolds stole the ball on 3 consecutive CCRI possessions.  Alex Bessey (Jay, ME) played tremendous with 15 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds, and 5 steals, while Kristen Huntress (Harrison, ME) also netted 15 points while connecting on 4 of 6 three pointers, and recording 4 steals of her own.  After battling 1st half foul trouble, Natalie Thurber (Wells, ME) scored all 13 of her points in the 2nd half, while hitting three 3's and dishing out 4 assists.

CM forced 30 turnovers and recorded an assist on every made field goal (23), while shooting 44.2% from the floor and 60% (9-15) from deep.

According to Head Women's Basketball Coach, Andrew Morong, "This was certainly a game of runs, and just when we thought we had the chance to really put CCRI out of it, they came crawling back hitting some big shots.  When we made one of our big runs in the second half, we had four freshman on the floor.  I was really proud of the way they rose to the occasion.  It's not easy jumping on a bus for four hours and beating a team, any team, on their home court.  Brooke (Reynolds) was simply everywhere, on the floor for loose balls, battling for rebounds, chasing down lazy passes, triple-doubles don't happen very often!"

Nia Mims scored a game-high 24 points for the Knights.

With the win the Lady Mustangs improve to 6-1 on the year, and will host undefeated NHTI on Thursday at 8:00pm.
