Down 17, Lady Mustangs storm back, shock UMA

Auburn, ME - With 2-minutes to go in the 3rd quarter, the Moose of UMaine-Augusta led by 17 points, and the situation looked bleak for the Lady Mustangs.  Behind the stellar play of Kristina Blais and Alex Bessey and a monster 2nd half by Jordyn Reynolds, CM surged ahead in using their press to cause havoc, racing past the Moosefor the 74-67 win.

Jordyn Reynolds led the way with a double-double of 20 points (game-high) and 13 rebounds, while Blais dropped in 19 points with 6 assists and 5 steals.  Bessey connected on three long balls, finishing with 15 points in her best performance of the 2nd semester.  She also recorded 6 steals while battling foul trouble all night.  Brooke Reynolds finished with 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Caitlin LaFountain led the Moose with a double-double of 13 points and 17 rebounds.  Sidney Moore and Dominique Lewis each hit for 15 points a piece.

CM shot a dismal 19% from the floor in the first half, while the Moose connected on 50% of their shots.

Head Women's Basketball Coach, Andrew Morong, on the win, "Well that was about as ugly as we could have played, especially in the first half.  UMA had a lot to do with that.  They always play solid half court man to man defense, and we just could not finish.  While they were shooting lights out, we just kept trying to push the tempo and wear them out.  It eventually caught up to them, and we started clicking.  We played this game not to lose, instead of the win, and it was clear that I did not have our women ready to play tonight.  An adjustment we will try to fix for our big game on Saturday."

With the win CM improves to 21-1 overall and 12-0 in the Yankee Conference.  UMA drops to 18-4 overall and 10-3 in the YSCC.  The Lady Mustangs will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Concord, NH for their final road game of the season.  The game vs. the Lynx of NHTI will take place at 1:00pm.
