Women's Basketball sinks pesky Clippers

Machias, ME - For the first time thanks before Thanksgiving and for only one of the few times this season, the Lady Mustangs found themselves with a single digit half time lead and a single digit 4th quarter lead. The pesky Clippers from UMaine-Machias, would just not go away. Even after trailing by as much as 15-points in the 3rd quarter, the Clippers clawed their way back into the game, cutting the Mustang lead to just 4 points with about 4-minutes to go. Although CM bent, they did not break, willing themselves past Machias for the 72-55 win.

Brooke Reynolds (Poland, ME) had a massive stat line with 16 points, 16 rebounds, 5 assists, and 5 steals. Jordyn Reynolds (Poland, ME) recorded her own double-double with 12 points, 13 rebounds, 5 blocks and two steals. Alex Bessey (Jay, ME) and Natalie Thurber (Wells, ME) battled foul trouble all afternoon, but scored 14 and 13 points respectively.

The Lady Mustangs were sloppy throughout the game, turning the ball over 23 times, most of which came after forcing a Machias turnover. Between foul trouble and turnovers, CM found very little rhythm throughout the game. However, they did manage to win the battle in the paint, out-rebounding the Clippers by +2 and limiting them to just 11 made field goals on 25.6% shooting.

There were 74 combined foul shots in the game with the Mustangs hitting 21 of 29 (72.4%) while Machias shot 30-45 (66.7%).

Caitlyn Lyons played a great game for the Clippers finishing with a game-high 20 points.

With the win the Lady Mustangs improve 11-1 overall and 7-0 in the Yankee Small College Conference. Machias drops to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the YSCC. Central Maine will be back in action on Wednesday when they host the undefeated and 4th ranked Seawolves from Southern Maine Community College (6:00pm).
