Both USCAA #1 team set to square offs

Auburn, ME - Tonight, the Lady Mustangs, who are ranked #1 in the USCAA D2 National Coaches poll will play host to UMaine-Fort Kent who are ranked #1 in the USCAA D1 National Coach poll, in an in-state game with major national tournament implications. The game will tip-off at 6:00pm.

The Bengals are 20-3 on the season and have won 8 straight games since losing to Wesleyan University on January 8th. They are lead by two of the front runners for USCAA Player of the Year, Tajaheray McMahan, who averages 18.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.8 steals per game. Trinity Washington, an outstanding point guard for UMFK, averages 14.7 points, 10.2 rebounds, and 7.6 assists per game.

CM sits at 17-2 overall, having won their last 5 games. During their 5-game win streak, the Mustangs are averaging a blistering 93 points per game, while only giving up 43.6 points per game. They are led by Brooke Reynolds (Poland, ME) who averages 12.7 points, 8.6 rebounds, 4.6 steals, and 2.8 assists per game while shooting 65% from the floor. Alex Bessey (Jay, ME) averages 10.2 points per game as the Mustangs second leading scorer.

The two teams met earlier this year in Fort Kent, with the Bengals edging out the 70-61 win over the Mustangs. In the first match-up the Bengals were led by McMahan with 20 points and 6 steals, while Washington just missed a triple-double with 15 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists. Ivette Trujillo also contributed 11 points for UMFK. CM was led by Ahna McCusker (Barrington, NH) with her first career double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Reynolds (Poland, ME) recorded her own double-double with 14 points, 18 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists. Kristen Huntress (Harrison, ME) connected for 11 points as well.
