Women's Basketball strikes in Europe again

Auburn, ME - Shemilia Johnson, a Newport News, Virginia native who has been living in Ramstein, Germany on the US Army Base for the last three years, will be joining the Lady Mustangs this fall. Johnson was named the Ramstein High School Girls Basketball MVP after averaging 11 points, 9.7 rebounds, 4.3 steals, and 1.6 blocks per game. In addition to being named to the All-Tournament Team this season, she also earned All-Europe 1st Team honors.

According to Johnson, "I am so excited to have the opportunity to take my game to the next level. After speaking with Coach Morong and several of the players I felt like CM was the best fit for me. They really made me feel welcome right from the beginning. I was able to watch a lot of their games and I love the way they play. They play fast, intense, and unselfish, and I cannot wait to be a part of that. I am ready for the next chapter in my life, and I honestly believe that Coach Morong and CM can help me in a major way."

"I am looking forward to the challenges ahead. I haven't played basketball in the US since my freshman year of high school, so I am going to have to get reacclimated. But, I have played against strong US and German teams while living overseas, so I hope my experience will help my transition into the US college ranks. I bring a lot of energy to the table, and I will work hard every day at CM."

Coach Morong on Johnson's commitment, "I think Shemilia has a lot of potential, and we are excited to get to work with her. Her life, academic, and athletic experiences are different than most, so we will use that to help our program grow. She will give us a strong and athletic presence in and around the paint, and she will really make an impact as her versatility expands."
