Auburn, ME - It was not the prettiest game, but the Mustang defense certainly showed up. They held Southern Maine Community College to just 27% shooting, while forcing 23 turnovers on their way to a 54-44 victory to sweep the regular season series. With the win CM has clinched their 4th straight Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Regular Season Championship and will go into next week's YSCC tournament as the number 1 seed. The Mustangs also completed another undefeated season on their home court, making it over 2.5 years since their last home loss.

Both teams slogged through the first half, in a slow paced, rugged game. CM finally got some momentum by picking up the tempo, a speed that the Seawolves just could not keep up with. Veterans Kristen Huntress (Harrison, ME), Natalie Thurber (Wells, ME) and Kasie Maloney (Concord, NH) led the way with their experience. Huntress finished with 11 points, Thurber with 12 (6 rebounds and 4 assists), and Maloney tallied 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 monster blocks.

Tonight the first year players made their mark on the defensive end. Abby Nadeau (Wales, ME) was relentless on defense and attacking the paint. She scored 10 and pulled down 5 rebounds in an effort in which her impact just does not show up in the box score. Alyssa Everett (Norridgewock, ME) only scored 4 points, but was a thorn in the Seawolves side on the defensive side of the ball. She also recorded 5 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.

Grace Fontaine led the Seawolves with 12 points.

Up next, the Lady Mustangs travel to UMaine Machias on Friday (4:00pm) for their last regular season game of the year.
