Clippers Crush Lady Mustangs

The Lady Mustangs faced their toughest opponents today as they matched up against the Lady Clippers in Machias, Maine.  From the start, the Mustangs were outmatched.

Within the first five minutes of the game, player Emma LaGallais of Machias scored 2 goals.   Just minutes after her first goal, LaGallais struck again with a beautiful kick into the top of the goal.  Clippers Tina Ferrara and Cayla Thomas also scored on the Mustangs during the first half and Machias took a 4-0 lead.

The Clippers tremendous lead only seemed to ignite the Lady Mustangs. CM's Brianna Lajoie, Breanna Cox and Gabrielle Ouellette poured on the defensive pressure during the second half.  After scoreless 26-minutes that were highlighted by numerous difficult saves by CM's goal keeper, Maggie McConkey, the Clippers finally scored.  The Mustangs refused to get discouraged and continued to contain the Clippers.  Unfortunately, the Clippers resilient defense never let a Mustang close enough to score a goal and game ended with a 5-0 loss for CM.

Last season, CM lost to UMM 9-0.  While CM is discouraged about their loss, they are pleased with their improvement.  The Lady Mustangs now have a 1-1-1 record.  Their next game is September 25 at 5:00pm at SMCC.

Sophomore Maggie McConkey (Fryburg, ME) and Brianna Lajoie (Lewiston, ME) were standouts for the Mustangs.  McConkey, who stepped in as goalie for the first time this season, had 37 saves on goal.
