Auburn, ME - The Central Maine Community College Lady Mustangs Soccer team continues to strengthen its 2017 roster with the addition of Wiscasset defenders Keara Hunter and Stephanie Jones who have both committed to play soccer at CM this fall.  Both will be enrolled in the Liberal Studies program with plans to transfer on to get their bachelors degrees.    

According to Head Women's Soccer Coach, Rob Rodriguez, "I was excited to get a pair of defenders who have been working together for the past four years, and although they will need to learn an entirely new playing system, they are already used to communicating with each other and hearing each other's voices so it's less we will need to do to get them ready."

Keara and Stephanie are both Mountain Valley Conference Academic All-Star selections, and were involved as class officers and with student council at Wiscasset High School.  Stephanie is an outside back and sweeper and both were four-year varsity players.  Although their playing experience, strong work ethic, and soccer backgrounds are very similar, they are two very different players with different strengths.  Keara is a left-footed player who has been used primarily as a left-side player throughout her high school career and is a Coaches Award winner.  Stephanie is a slightly smaller with good speed, and had to battle back after a knee injury cut her senior season very short.  She was voted as Most Improved in her junior year and won the Sportsmanship award in her senior year.  

Wiscasset High School Coach, Duane Goud, commented that "Both of them played all four years, Stephanie played as an outside back or sweeper and worked very hard to rehabilitate her knee in time for spring sports after suffering an injury early in her senior soccer season.  Keara was also an outside back and sweeper for most of her high school career but in her senior year, due to injuries on the team I ended up moving her around due to her strength at multiple positions on the left side of the field."

Rodriguez added, "Adding new defenders is the first step in our development for this year because it allows us to move our returning, experienced defensive players into the midfield where they will become the engine that powers this machine.  By learning new roles, they should provide the spark that gets us started."
