Women's Soccer blanks Paul Smith's College

Paul Smith's, NY - Following an overnight stay in Plattsburgh, NY, the Mustangs continued westward on their 700-mile round-trip journey to the Adirondack Mountains to play Paul Smiths College in the final Yankee Conference game of their season.  The previous two weeks of focus on their midfield play paid off in a well-coordinated Mustang attack that produced results quickly.  4-minutes into the game, freshman forward, Brittany Greig, scored off a pass from Meghan Desjardins to give the Lady Mustangs an early 1-0 lead.  The game then settled into a back and forth contest with both teams trading shots for the next 24 minutes until Ellie Harrington scored on a pass, again from Desjardins, to give the Mustangs a two-goal lead.  2-minutes later, Desjardins again won a ball at midfield and put a perfect pass on the feet of Megan Duval, who put the Mustangs up 3-0 and that's where the scored stayed at halftime.

In the 2nd half, the Mustangs began working on a new formation in anticipation of their upcoming non-conference games, intentionally putting their three-back defensive set-up of Keara Hunter, Abby Fogg, and Cheyenne Gray under more pressure to see how they would respond.  They held up well under the increased Bobcats attack and together with the Central Maine midfield created another goal when Desjardins, who was a factor in each of the Mustang goals, got one of her own on a scramble in front of the net after passes from Duval and Ellie Jasper.  Mustang goalkeeper, Ali Sult, recorded her first college shutout, making 15 saves to get the 4-0 win.

The Lady Mustangs are back in action with two non-conference matchups at rival SMCC on Tuesday at 3:30 pm and home against UMaine-Machias on Wednesday with a 2:30 pm kickoff.
