Auburn, ME - The day after a disappointing performance on the road at SMCC, the Lady Mustangs were back in action at home in their 2nd game in as many days, hosting UMaine Machias Clippers. In a new offensive-driven formation that they began working on during their NY road trip, the Mustangs jumped out to an early lead on a Megan Duval goal, off a pass from Meghan Desjardins. Central Maine had numerous chances at the Clipper net while at the other end of the field, the Mustang defense was limiting Machias to long-range shots. At the 37-minute mark of the first half however, the Clippers tied the score on a goal by Dara Economy off a scramble in front of the Mustang net and the half ended at 1-1.
The Mustangs came out of half-time a little flat and yielded a goal by Colleen Hendricks within the first few minutes on a ball through their defense. Central Maine picked up the pace and the game was played up and down the field for the remaining 40-minutes but the Clippers early second half goal would prove to be the game winner. It was a well-played game by both sides and in spite of the loss, the Mustangs came away knowing it was a high quality performance against a good Machias team.
Central Maine is back in action in their final home game of the season on Monday, October 16 in a 3:30 pm non-conference game against Unity College.
